Today is the last day of route W14 in its current form as tomorrow it will be used as the new number for route 549. The W14 was introduced in 1989 as the new number itself of the 206, running from Leytonstone to the old Claybury Hospital. 1996 saw it cut back to its present northern terminus of Woodford Bridge, and it was extended at the southern end to Leyton in 2000, and to Leyton Mills in 2005. Originally operated by Eastern National, the route passed to County Bus from a base in Debden, which later became part of the Arriva group. Arriva operated the route until 2012 when it passed to First at Lea Interchange. The final W14 bus this evening will depart Leyton at 0020. It will be running number LI 107, worked by 37571 YY64YKO. The W14 under Arriva with the W reg ALX200s in the Aqua livery will always be remembered by me. I used the route daily for 3 or so years in the early 2000s. The service used to be absolutely shocking in the late evening and the early electric smart blinds were awful but still will always be remembered as a significant part of my life in my early 20s. Sighted 37735 leave WA and turn onto the A406 towards Woodford at around 1325 with lots of people in hi-vis.
Just seen the same bus on Shernhall Rd (Whipps X) following the revised W12 routing.

The W14 under Arriva with the W reg ALX200s in the Aqua livery will always be remembered by me. I used the route daily for 3 or so years in the early 2000s. The service used to be absolutely shocking in the late evening and the early electric smart blinds were awful but still will always be remembered as a significant part of my life in my early 20s. What area did those Aqua ones say they were serving? I know the red ones obviously use to say Arriva serving London on the sides and the blue ones on the 286 said serving Kent Thameside. Could be wrong but I'm sure it was 'serving Essex and the Shires'.

Similar to in South London we had Arriva Surrey and West Sussex on the 403, 407, 455, the latter nit going beyond the London boundary.

No your right - The Shires & Essex was under the main Arriva logo - londonbusesbyadam.zenfolio.com/p529036530/h5626eeee#h5626eeeeSome of those buses ended up at CN & later on TC slotting in with the DWS class Cadets when the 410 got a PVR increase - they sounded a little bit weary as I remember ADL63 had what possibly was a wearing down of it's suspension (strange noises would come from the under carriage particularly around corners) whilst ADL64 would over rev in first gear.

On the 4th September marked 30 years of Stagecoach East London and Stagecoach Selkent. This was the first main London Buses Ltd subsidiary to be sold off as privatisation started.

I remember it well when it started in March 1989. It was the final phase of the Walthamstow area changes that started in 1988 which saw a major revamp of services. It was more frequent, warmer buses and reliable than the 206 when it started.

For me it would always be remembered with the green & yellow Mercedes 709D's. As for the evening service, I think it was every 20 minutes and had very tight running time in the evenings after being extended to Leyton Asda (Initially stopped at the Leyton Town Hall before Asda complex was ready). I think the electric Smart Blinds was by Bright Tech. After around 2010 they ripped all the equipment out and fitted standard blinds in all blind boxes.

Today marks the end of the last 549 route with the last bus arriving at South Woodford at 7:30. The route will be completely absorbed by the revised W14 from tomorrow (basically gets a frequency increase, Sunday + evening service and an extension to Wanstead and Whipps X).
The only remaining 5xx route is the 533 which is a long term temporary route for the closure of Hammersmith Bridge.

These youngsters need to understand they are using a bus that’s in service and not a party bus for their personal enjoyment. I dead to think what tomorrow will be like! Saw one of them doing pushups in the wheelchair area, I was so confused! I also heard someone got PUNCHED randomly by an enthusiast. I don't even want to think how the routes will operate tomorrow, especially the W12 and W13. What I'm more concerned about is how the W12 will operate with the new E100 EVs, with enthusiasts potentially taking up the entire bus, but it won't last like that for long when it does happen !

I have just seen it… Oh my gosh… I thought the SL2 video was bad fighting over the front seat. Was there actually any space for anyone who actually uses the service regularly ?!?!

I always try and avoid this younger enthusiast nonsense by going a few days early/afterwards and occasionally doing things during school days. I had a lovely 549 send off with a bus to myself a few days ago

Quite honestly goodness knows what’s going to happen at TB open day now. I have to say the behaviour is getting worse, could they all not just sit down and do the journey without any noise in fact do so many people need to do the last bus? At one point no one cared and now all of a sudden 30 people get on the last bus.
