Could existing buses be retrofitted with LED blinds and Smart Cameras instead of mirrors and roller smart blinds? Yes, but which operator is going to fork out to do this now, when there is not much money coming in. Not so much the cameras but I do think TfL should be making it a requirement for LED blinds to be installed upon refurbishment as it will save money in the long run

It would be great if this happens for Grays.

It has been said in the past that TfL would like to charge for the ferry crossings when tolls are introduced next year for the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels. It would require an act of parliament. If they charge it would go bankrupt, who in their right mind would waste money for a crossing that takes ages when you can do the same going via silvertown and still spend the same money. They may as well do away with the Ferry if users have to pay. Like you said who is going to pay such an amount of money for a slow crossing.

I heard this is indeed what the intention is. It would be great if this happens for Grays. Great to hear, would solve some issues for sure Also makes loaning vehicles to other garages much easier as WH have done many times with their Smart Hybrids.

I remember when the qualifier was "Free Ferry" (and that was for both Woolwich and North Woolwich). The ferry was a fer more important public transport link that it is now. Having grown up in Harrow and being more used to outer London suburbia, North Woolwich and the ferry seemed very other-worldly. It has been said in the past that TfL would like to charge for the ferry crossings when tolls are introduced next year for the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels. It would require an act of parliament. Seriously what have some of most deprived parts of London done to deserve two tunnel and ferry tolls? Plus we know they will find a way to charge for the Rotherhithe Tunnel or close it therefore forcing cars to use the other two tunnels.

I don't think an operator would retro-fit voluntarily at their own expense, but TfL could make it a stipulation when awarding contracts with existing vehicles and operators could factor the cost into their bids. It's more an investment issue for TfL, especially the cameras which can be justified on safety grounds (notwithstanding their occasional failure, overall they are still safer).

Abellio 2447 had blinds and now has LEDs (exhibit Blinds, not my photo flic.kr/p/2n271Na ) (exhibit LEDs, not my photo flic.kr/p/2oDppuN ) Relevant to this Arriva thread, EMC6 also had a retrofit I recall seeing a Tower Transit VN on 25 with both camera mirrors and standard mirrors on a TfL document somewhere, when trialling the camera tech. You really have way too much time on your hand for the blinds in your status image

You really have way too much time on your hand for the blinds in your status image Thanks for the compliment Being an experienced photo/video editor as a hobby, it was a quick 5 minute job to do that 7 second GIF. My pitfall was the forum's file size limit and the GIF format itself bloated (if only reputable sites accepted .webp/.webm). About an hour overall from brainstorming what type of memes I'm happy with, to editing, to using an external site to upload. Keeping myself productive using my skills here and there.

Looks like Arriva sent someone out to North Woolwich in the evening yesterday to adjust the front blinds on DW333 to be white and inserted the white laminate SL2 card in front of it. Clearly trying their best I believe blinds were delivered late on Friday hence they prioritised getting route number inserts in first on Friday night and then front and side destinations in last night. Turns out that the blinds only just made it in time at the 11th hour before the start of the SL2 yesterday morning good to see DX making the effort to put in the blinds for the SL2 despite the less than ideal situation they were in with the blinds on the night before.

Planned obsolescence would probably be the main reason rather than making money, we’ve seen what they’ll do to save the smallest amount over these past few years.
