58/158 merged into one route, from East Ham to Chingford Mount, then extended to Chingford station. To link Chingford with Forest Gate and East Ham. Route takes the 58 LOR to St James's Street then the 158 route to Chingford Mount then to Chingford via route 97. To be numbered 58 and the 158 withdrawn. This also gives Blackhorse Road and Higham Hill a direct link to Chingford 215 extended to Stratford via route 158. To replace lost links on route 158 The combined 58/158 route will be relatively long serving areas with a lot of traffic. By doing this you're creating a long, difficult to operate route. The 158s (and 58s) get very busy down my ends, especially during the evening peak. What frequencies are these new bus routes going to be? For the 215 you need the very high frequency at the Stratford end of the 158 at least, but 10bph to Yardley Lane and the campsite is overkill. You'd also need the high frequencies for the new 58 route - t158 at Blackhorse Road going towards Higham Hill gets very busy going towards Higham Hill as there are no rail stations up to Chingford Mount. The 158 works perfectly well and has a become a very successful route, recently being drastically upgraded from a 6bph service to a 10bph service. Is a Chingford - Higham Hill link that demanded? Or an East Ham to Chingford link? Passengers will switch buses if need be. It's just merging routes for the sake of merging routes (yet neither of these ideas are as bad as the 31/113 merger!)

Another absurd idea that would waste resources and make the bus network worse despite being more expensive. Suggest you go to Stratford station at peaks. You'll see why the 158 runs there at such a high frequency. The idea of replacing that with a every 20 minute 215 is laughable. All whilst cutting capacity on the core overlap 58/158 section and overbussing East Ham and Chingford. Double the frequency of the 215 then have Chingford Mount or Chingford station shorts (every other bus) Otherwise extend the 212 to Stratford and possibly cut the 58 to Chingford Mount There's no need though - the 58 & 158 aren't broke as others far more knowledgeable than me have pointed out so why try to find a solution to a non existing problem? The 215 is primarily there to serve Lea Valley Campsite, Yardley Lane & the are around Mansfield Hill as well as providing capacity on the busy Walthamstow to Chingford Mount corridor which is why it sits at 3 bph whilst the 212 exists to link up several areas between Chingford & Walthamstow and any extension to Stratford would give the current passengers a worse service as a result of the extra traffic hotspots - it's no as simple as going, "well extend that route and cut that route back" like some think on here, a lot more thought is needed into whether the benefits are actually there and the consequences of doing said changes.

To replace lost links on route 158 The 69 and 97 could in effect be merged, especially since the 69 was cut back to Canning Town. I always thought that was a major mistake and angered me at the time it happened. I really loved the stretch on Silvertown Way and going into London City Airport; it was a breath of fresh air instead of continuing down to North Woolwich as it used to. Chingford Station to Canning Town is do-able. It only would have people up in arms at the loss of the Stratford City section for Westfield which is very popular.

To replace lost links on route 158 East Ham to Chingford Mount in today's road would be an overkill. Especially with the amount of 20mph on the roads now and increased running times. You'd be looking at an hour and a half running time. With the 58 coming across various hotspots I.e Green Street, Forest Gate, Leyton High Road, Markhouse Road and if it then followed the 158 then there's the Crooked Billet roundabout in which the NCR can be a bit choc-a-bloc.

Idea for a route, Route 334 SD between South Woodford The Drive and Tottenham Hale, 8-9 miles Via South Woodford The Drive, South Woodford, Mulberry way, North Circular, Forest Road, Hale End Road, Wadham Road, Crooked Billet North Circular, Montagu Road, Conduit Lane, Angel Edmonton Road, Leeside Road, Willoughby Lane, Sherbourne Road, Havelock Road Park View Road, Tottenham Hale. Road Changes: Stand on the Drive Advantages: Direct Links from South Woodford to Tottenham Hale, Northumberland Park and Crooked Billet Disadvantages: Duplication of 34, 123, 341, 444 and unlikely to come to action in the current climate. I would like to see changes or alternatives for a North London link in east london. Definitely an interesting idea, and would also benefit the developments at Meridian Water. I would question how much demand there would be between Crooked Billet and South Woodford, though depends on what frequency you were thinking for this new route. As you say it would duplicate a few other routes, but could instead look at introducing the new links at each end. For example, the 192 could divert via your proposed routeing between Meridian Water and Tottenham Hale, to cover the more local roads around Northumberland Park? Then have another route alongside (using higher capacity vehicles) covering Watermead Way - perhaps a 41 extension, or a new route continuing onwards to serve other developments towards Ponders End and Brimsdown. At the Woodford end, I've previously suggested merging the 385/549 into a new route, providing a more frequent level of service on both sections (but still low frequency due to expected demand), plus some new links similar to your suggestion. This could go from Chingford to Crooked Billet via the 385, then continuing to South Woodford via your proposal, and taking over the 549 as far as Buckhurst Hill Station. The Loughton end of the 549 could then be covered by swapping the 167/397 routeings (with both serving a double run to Buckhurst Hill). At South Woodford, I also think a direct link to Walthamstow Central would be very useful. There is currently the W12, but it is both indirect and infrequent. One option could be to extend the 230 from Upper Walthamstow to South Woodford. Or alternatively could reroute the 179 to Walthamstow, then extend the W13 to Chingford (with a DD conversion)? The W12 is no longer a sensible option from Walthamstow to South Woodford imo. The 30 min frequency and the fact it detours into Whipps Cross hospital just makes the journey tedious and forever. I had previously got off the W12 at the stop before Whipps Cross roundabout, walked to the roundabout to get a 20, W15, 257, 230, 357 and still made it to Walthamstow before the W12 got there. It was then also better to go on the A406 to get the 123 to Walthamstow Bell, then get a 97, 34, 215, 357 into the Central.

317 extended to Waltham Abbey Tesco via Eleanor Cross Road, Station Road, Highbridge Street, Quaker Lane, Sewardstone Road. Gives Waltham Cross station a London bus route, plus a London bus route link to Waltham Abbey.
215 extended to Waltham Abbey Tesco via Sewardstone Road. Gives the 215 a more useful destination rather than terminating in the middle of nowhere.
New SD route 408 Chase Farm Hospital to Chingford station (2bph Mon-Sat excl. evenings). The Ridgeway, East Lodge Lane, Cattlegate Road, Whitewebbs Lane, Bull's Cross, Bullsmoor Lane, Elsinge Road, Turkey Street, Hertford Road, Ordnance Road, Mollison Avenue, 313 to Chingford. Via: Botany Bay, Crews Hill, Bullsmoor, Turkey Street, Enfield Lock, Brimsdown, Ponders End, West Chingford, Chingford station
Would give Crews Hill a link to Chase Farm Hospital, which is nearer than North Middlesex, Gives Crews Hill station a bus route, a direct link between Crews Hill and Bullsmoor/Turkey Street, a bus route serving Turkey Street station other than the infrequent 327, a link from Enfield Lock/Brimsdown to Chingford
Would be operated by Sullivan Buses. All roads currently without a bus route would operate a Hail and Ride section.
192 - would be extended to Walthamstow Central via the 230. To provide a route from Enfield/Edmonton to Walthamstow.
379 - extended from Yardley Lane to Lee Valley Campsite via 215. Gives Chingford station a link to the Lee Valley Campsite
327 - frequency reduced to every 60 minutes. Because the 408 would provide a route through the Elsinge Estate, reducing the need for a 40 minute frequency on the 327.

Crews Hill has been suggested for a link to Chase Farm with the residents calling for a extension of the 456 initially until a business case didn't justify it. I doubt we will see extensions into Waltham Abbey being they are unlikely to represent a value for money to a London taxpayer and a will from Hertfordshire to fund services. Current routes terminating at Waltham Cross represents the most value terminating at a town centre and a interchange station.

I don't think we should advocate for reduction on services in particular the 327. Despite its usage declining in demand over recent years, it has been a very useful route for those that don't want to cross the A10 and catch the 217/317 to Waltham Cross being the A10 also running into congestions in the peaks. TfL themselves refused to pay for an additional PVR when reduced it's frequency resulting in demand declining. Sadly this is a route being a shadow of itself where I can personally see it being withdrawn by it's next contract.

Some pointless trivia but it is also the 'least south' bus route operated by tfl, ie every other route goes further south than the 327's southern point Least east - U9 at Harvil Road Least north - 404 at Coulsdon Least west - 346 at Upminster

The 215 doesn't terminate in the middle of nowhere - it terminates at a campsite and also serves the Yardley Lane Estate linking areas south of their as well as a link into Chingford Mount & the major shopping area at Walthamstow. TfL are not interested in new border crossings and whilst they may be justification for one route, two to Waltham Abbey is very much over doing it. As locals on here have said for years, the 192 is not an ideal candidate to extend and is two routes in one really. The W8 has always struck me as the best way to link Enfield & Walthamstow outside of a brand new route

Diverting the 215 will break journey's for the Yardley estate users. The main support of the 313 from my experiences is needed from Chingford station itself, buses are often left being well filled during the peaks. I do find it inadequate for a 20 minute service to provide a inter town centre link. It wasn't until recently the 313 converted to double deck LT operation.

Wonder if this could work: Withdraw the 349 between Stamford Hill and Tottenham Town Hall, then reroute to Walthamstow via the 230 or possibly 123 to Bell Corner and the 34 to Walthamstow. The northern end would either be extended to Enfield Town or Chingford station, the former giving Enfield and Edmonton a link to Walthamstow, whilst the latter gives Edmonton a link to Chingford and supports the 313. Alternatively the W6 could be extended to Chingford as it has been suggested before. I wouldn't extend the 377 because of its low frequency and no Sunday service. Extending the W16 isn't bad although I doubt there would be demand from Leytonstone to Ponders End/Enfield. Besides the W16 doesn't serve Walthamstow town centre so might not be the best route to extend. Diverting the 357 could work, I'd probably use one of two options: 1. Withdraw between Crooked Billet and Chingford Hatch, extend via 34 and 102 to Edmonton Green; Extend the 158 to Chingford Hatch 2. Withdraw between Chingford Mount and Chingford Hatch, extend via 215 and 313 to Enfield; Extend the 158 to Chingford Hatch
