For downstairs, don’t forget tip up seats I discounted that based it was same number upstairs and downstairs. Would getting rid of the straight staircase account for this? But that would be 2 rows of seats on the offside. Plus the seat in the middle at the back- the NI ones might have 5 seats rather than 4

That would certainly take all the Arriva requirements for the 50/194/250/289/255 with nothing else requiring new buses at present.

Looking at the specs for the double deck Volvo BZL, it is very underpowered @ 200kw (272bhp) which is also the same as the standard single deck output but the single deck also has a option of 400kw (544bhp). I mean looking at the VMSLs for the 251 they weigh 12725kgs already so surely the double decker must be somewhere around 13,700kgs.

It states max wheel torque ad 19, 000 for single motor and 31, 000 for dual motors.

Ive taken a few of the BZL DD’s in Cambridge, the bus certainly didn’t feel underpowered. It seemed to accelerate and get up to speed really well, including on a 50mph road. Presumably the power output you stated is what it would have had being the only option available, it was pretty impressed with them

An ADL Enviro400 has 250hp, a Scania N230UD has 230hp, a Volvo B5LH has 240hp.
