Because of the impossibility of distributing hard copies, the latest edition of TLB has been made available by LOTS as a PDF on the 'latest news' page of their website. It's open to all so worth taking a look even if you're not a member - it may persuade you to join up!

Good to know hard copies will be sent at a later date.

I'd only rejoin once they bring the membership side into the 21st century personally - the fact that direct debit or rolling memberships isn't an option still is personally disappointing when just about everything using a subscription model has these as standard. There was meant to a refresh of the the staff involved I remember reading with more younger members promoted - has this happened yet?

Don't think anyone volunteered ... so the dwindling old guard continue ... when Dave Stewart calls it a day, I expect LOTS to cease Same but at least, there are others who can fill any void if they do cease. I've been a member since 1969 when I first became aware of it, and it had been going for a few years before that. It's always been run by volunteers, albeit that some are closely involved at the hard end, and there have been constant refrains over the years for more members to volunteer their services, which have mostly fallen on deaf ears. The LOTS newsletter is still very important, but in this digital information age so much info can go online. On the other hand, the London Bus Magazine, with its varied articles and interesting photos, many from pre-colour and certainly pre- digital camera time, has been an important adjunct for many decades now and is, rightly, only available in print format. The various Supps too provide much-needed extra cash to keep the whole show on the road, and the monthly meetings, which I've not managed to attend this century, attract some excellent speakers, including on at least three occasions Peter Hendy.

I think their image probably stops younger members from wanting to volunteer especially when you look at the good Facebook groups like The Londoner which have a mix of young & old members, both groups contribute to publications and they offer more modern ways of payment. LOTS in comparison seems very stuck in the past - I feel more modern methods of payment and an image change may very much keep them from fading away

LOTS in comparison seems very stuck in the past - I feel more modern methods of payment and an image change may very much keep them from fading away I suspect the payment issue is as much to do with not wanting to create a lot of extra work for said volunteers as it might be a reluctance to accept more modern methods of payment. Having run a small retail unit, I'm very conscious how the small trader, and voluntary groups, has to pay much higher charges per item to the bank, especially with debit and credit cards. Do LOTS really want to be subject to chargebacks, etc, even if they only remain a theoretical possibility? I was a younger member once. With the best will in the world, had I volunteered it probably wouldn't have lasted for long - too much else going on at that stage of life! The perceived image problem is probably not as important as you think - something 'trendier' might attract a few initially, but would they stay? What image does bus enthusiasm have with the general public? Not as bad as trainspotters, perhaps, but then there are no platforms to gather at the end of.

Have to disagree about the Londoner group, came off that recently and have joined some really great grown up groups now, for example group about LCBS. Just my view uote author=" busaholic" source="/post/564342/thread" timestamp="1587136002"] I think their image probably stops younger members from wanting to volunteer especially when you look at the good Facebook groups like The Londoner which have a mix of young & old members, both groups contribute to publications and they offer more modern ways of payment. LOTS is very relevant to the current London bus scene, the amount of detail its includes in the TLB and SUPs is amazing in my mind and they have a good relationship with all the bus companies they cover in TLB. I for one pass on information each month for inclusion in TLB. I have been a member since 2002 and like to still class myself as a younger enthusiast, i like receiving TLB in the post each month but with the number of copies i have in the garage it would be good to go online but i totally understand the work load they have and appreciate 110% what they do and always try to support them.

I agree completely and I think LOTS is still by far and away the best for in depth and accurate information on the London bus scene and long may they continue.

Can only agree with that, and just add the word impartial, a very important consideration in this day and age.
