Unsure if anyone's interested or aware but this emerged from Channel 4 today... Hermes auctioning off parcels which they have not attempted to deliver or if undelivered return to sender. Think this counts as theft? Hoping an inquiry will be launched. Twitter replies to their accounts also showing similar occurances

Hermes is well dodgy, someone I know runs a pub and ordered a microwave. Was sent a picture by hermes of the pubs front door saying it had been delivered through their letterbox ... like to see how a microwave was delivered through a letterbox

No wonder the drivers don't bother if they're not getting their money's worth

I'm to quite suer why Hermes is particularly bad, where I work they use Hermes for deliveries and the amount of returns for damaged products is unbelievable. The other day an order from Topman was just abandoned on my doorstep by them, didn't even realise it was there until I stepped out. The tracker online didn't even update with the information.

I think Hermes drivers have to do a huge amount of drops per day to make a decent wage so always rushing. I also see DPD drivers rushing around so probably similar.

I can't remember what product I was browsing one time, but what I do remember was the reviews were more about how bad Hermes was than the actual product itself

Can I speak up for Hermes? Since the lockdown I've purchased various items from various sources and as if by coincedence, all the deliveries have been by Hermes, in a fully badged up Merc van. The drivers, various have always been polite, and I always receive an e-mail giving me a two hour 'window' of delivery. They've always delivered in that window. In case anyone is going to ask, no I don't or ever have worked for Hermes, neither do I know anyone who does. This 'pilfering' has it been traced to a particular depot? Lets not generalise please. Thank you.

Yep, (can't remember but think their route is preset) So if you're in a housing estate (looking at you Patmore Estate :/) you spend a lot of the time stopping at nearly each flat just to go upstairs and drop off a parcel instead of finding an efficient route and take a few parcels with you on foot

I used to think Hermes was one of the worst parcel couriers in existence, there are so many memes being posted across social media at the moment. Everyone has this perception that Hermes are a BTEC company who don't care one bit about deliveries, and in truth many companies choose to use them because they're the cheapest couriers and saves them additional delivery costs. This was until I went on a university field trip inside their "hub" warehouse in Warrington just before the lockdown occurred and actually realised that they are a company on the up and looking for ways to innovate. I also had to write a 1,000 word essay on Hermes following this field trip. The warehouse was huge and rather complex but I was amazed at the sheer amount of automation in use, as well as how large and modern the facility was, and its perfectly capable of handling the thousands of parcels that are processed every day. Whilst this also helps to reduce their costs however, so is self employing their couriers which is where the issues mentioned in this thread lie. But I agree with what John tuthill says, and they are gradually starting to improve. They gave us a talk during our visit and they're really making good use of technology to introduce new features and innovate and this is something I found very interesting, even when doing my research. These features include AR powered video messages sent with parcels, giving a two hour window for deliveries which will eventually lead to Hermes customers being able to choose their own slots, and eventually car boot deliveries working in partnership with Volkswagen, where couriers will be allowed to access the boots of certain VW's. It sounds dodgy at first but security has been considered greatly as couriers are given a single use code which does not allow them to start the vehicle and have to provide photo evidence of the delivery and confirm the boot is locked. I believe a trial has been carried out in Milton Keynes for car boot deliveries. We've had a few things delivered by Hermes too and our courier has been friendly. Of course there are exceptions though.
