Hey all wishing you well during this pandemic and fingers crossed we'll be back to routine soon ๐๐
I'd like to report that Park Lane in Central London now has a speed limit of 20mph with a segregated cycle path making it safer for Londoners to walk and cycle.
New cycle lanes are in the process of being constructed from:
Lewisham - Downham (A21) which will replace the bus lane along Rushey Green with a new speed limit of 20mph.
Kingston - Croydon (currently in the process of construction).
Kings Cross along Euston Road with a new speed limit of 20mph.
Along with many boroughs already 20mph wide such as Lambeth, Westminster, Southwark & Lewisham (majority). I'll report that from July it's planned that North Chingford & Highams Park will have new speed limits of 20mph working towards making LBWF a 20mph wide borough.
As lockdown is being eased we cannot continue to travel around our great city as we did pre-lockdown, so the new cycle lanes being built will not only encourage a healthier commute but will also create a Greener, healthier and economic London!
Glad to know that major cities across the UK such as Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham with Reading along is going 20mph!
Last but not least all new built cars in the EU and Britain will have a compulsory speed limiter from 2022 onwards which will prevent drivers exceeding the speed limit. Some buses in London already are in the process of having this feature installed and other major cities are to follow.
Wishing you a great night and hope that you will all convert your journeys to walking & cycling where as possible.

What a waste of money and as usual, let's remove useful things like bus lanes while we are at it. The only saving grace is I don't live in Waltham Forest.

Lycra power is too great an influence on politics at the moment ... Giving up valuable road space to cycle lanes is a waste of resources in my eyes

With public transport capacity greatly reduced by social distancing requirements for the foreseeable future it's good to see this being done.......... the alternative would be everyone gets in their car and gridlock.

It does seem sensible to prioritise cycling infrastructure over private vehicles in inner London, based on the amount of bikes a road carry vs the amount of cars a road can carry Not sure i agree with borough-wide 20mph zones. I think 20mph are fine on residential roads and high streets with heavy pedestrian flow. When 20s start to encroach on dual carriageways i dont think it has as much value.

Kingston bridge and parts of Kingston inner ring road have gained lane closures for cyclists. It is coping for now, but as a major shopping centre, is likely to become very congested when shops reopen 15 June. The locations of the closures will probably cause traffic problems approaching town and will thus also affect buses as many of the bus lanes have been removed (or reduced to isolated short lengths) due to the mini Holland cycle lane works www.kingston.gov.uk/news/article/1075/kingston_to_introduce_temporary_protected_walking_and_cycle_lanes_to_aid_social_distancing

I think it could be quite useful, but would only be accepted/used by those who already keep within the limit. Anyone who breaks the limit regularly certainly wonโt have this installed on their vehicle for long. I donโt think itโs appropriate for the state to intervene in peopleโs lives excessively. I wonder if a no deal Brexit will have any impact on whether the government choose to align themselves with the EU on rules such as this.

If they really want to help enforce more safety in general road usage how about replacing many of the Give Way signs with Stop signs. Many side road junctions have too much blind spots for cars to enter a High Street without stopping, no matter how slow they may be going. Also, adjust some of the traffic lights so that the next ones to change green are delayed by a few seconds to give the junction time to clear...baring in mind that red and amber is still classed as a red light.

I wonder if you are a wind up merchant with a different sign on, to create a first post with a last line as that is a joke. Not even nothing about buses.
