Let's hope ultimately he can do more for London than he was prevented from doing for New York.

I wonder how the new commissioner (who grew up in Plymouth, although apparently was born in Kent) will view buses, especially as the buses were losing nearly £2m per day (pre Covid). There are many Underground staff that seem to consider buses as a less important activity.
He was historically an Underground man

There's always been an inclination to treat both divisions entirely separately, to the detriment of the travelling public I feel. For a time, with Ken Livingstone as Mayor and Peter Hendy as Transport Commissioner the mould got broken, but it re-established itself soon after. Boris Johnson's supposed interest in buses soon dissipated once he'd got rid of the bendies, introduced the NRM and, within a short period of time, found its intended 'hop on, hop off' facility removed.

Do you reckon Andy Byford will encourage slashes to London buses or stand his ground

Do you reckon Andy Byford will encourage slashes to London buses or stand his ground If his tenure in New York is anything to go by, he will stand his ground and resist game playing and cuts by politicians. Whether that will work, who knows - but it's a good mentality to have.

So do you reckon he could potentially increase bus usage? If he fights hard and gets the hard cash for improvements, quite possibly. I suspect most of the lobbying effort will be for cash for BLE, Crossrail 2, Piccadilly resignalling which are all fantastic schemes that need money - but improvements to bus services could probably be delivered quite quickly and quite easily at much smaller cost than big ticket programmes.

Is Byford going to be creating changes or will there still be Sadiq making them? Depends - obviously Sadiq is Chairman and will have his Mayoral policies, but the Commissioner can have a surprisingly big impact if they lobby hard enough. Kiley and Hendy were very good at this from 2000-2015 hence the enormous spending on public transport which doubled bus passenger numbers. Livingstone liked the vision, Kiley asked for it, Livingstone gave the cash

No other personnel changes planned at the moment but no doubt there may be changes.

Not to mention, Andy Byford was loved by new yorkers. They even gave him a lovely send off.
