I'm expecting to see a bus full, non school , school service any day soon In fairness I guess drivers can forget to remove the signs. No need to wait (not mine) Think that picture shows the school bus sign is as stated a very pale lime green, and not yellow like the bus full sign.

Spotted a "School Extra" 300 today with 1 pupil onboard! The bus had passed 2 secondary schools a few stops back! I hope these services a reviewed at half term and resources are made better use of.
I guess the problem with these services is there is an assumption students go straight home after school but this is not always the case especially in town centres near shops and take away places.

Seems WH garage is running the extras on the 287 and 496.

This months "The Londoner" reports that all extra school buses need to operate as duplicates and sell tickets - Not sure if they mean outside of London but the question I have is do the extras from Stagecoach / Ensign have TfL ticket machines and able to take payment?

With the Stagecoach extras that uses non-TfL spec buses, no they don't have TfL ticket machines fitted which means a non school kid who ends up using those extras can ride for free as there is no reader to touch in.
I've managed to ride a 167 extra on a provincial spec E200 twice this week and on both occasions did had normal adults using the extra which most of them were surprised by the fact they couldn't touch in they card. I did also went on the 462 on a Solo SR from Bedford as well.

I think some of the school extras finish Friday 16 October, and others week later (some schools have 2 week half term in longer Autumn term)
I understand the default free travel for Children is scheduled to stop end of October, so won’t apply when schools return early November. However the statutory 2 mile (or 3mile depends on circumstances) home to school travel will still be provided.
It seems the ULEZ (heavy vehicles) goes ahead on 26 October, but TfL have deferred implementation of fines until Feb/March due to coronavirus delaying conversions. It remains to be seen if they ban any bus not euroVI minimum from 26 October or delay until early 2021. Some of the extras retained (or borrowed from elsewhere) do not meet this standard
Not yet seen any info on school services from November after half term.

I must really praise Abellio for their work on their Croydon school routes, they were fully blinded as well (Arriva don't even blind their buses correctly, leaving it on the 264 for whatever reason ), in comparison to the other operators, they seem to be a lot better, even though this is their first foray into school routes. Seems like a good first few days for Abellio.

Many school routes crosslink and they often get blinded properly.

Not that it's an excuse as such but many of Arriva's older buses are still manual wind, of which some may have stiff handles where the mechanisms may need greasing. I can only imagine what it can be like having to go through turning four¹ different handles with that issue. Abellio on the other hand had powerblinds retrofitted with most of their existing refurbished fleet, therefore a simple menu selection on their screen.Go-Ahead as a further example spec'd powerblinds from the start with most of their post-B7TL orders, therefore same as Abellio. ¹ - rear, side, front route and front destination blinds

No surprise it was empty this afternoon

SP40020 was on the V293 (not my tweet) Are the Bedfont Lakes services still completely suspended or is there a reduced service?
