Hiya! I'm considering preserving an ex London United SN51 Dennis Dart and I was wondering if anyone could give any advice? Also, does anyone know of any storage in the Herts, Beds and Bucks area? Thanks, Ed You could try Bromley Bus Preservation Group, however most of the yards are based south of London. Worth messaging as there may be other sites elsewhere

Thanks, Ed You need a plan (and budget!) for insurance, storage and moving the bus. What do you want to do with it? If it’s an ornament then you’ll just pay storage. If you want it out on the road you’ll need contacts who can do maintenance and repairs. And you’ll want to get the condition checked out by a professional first unless you’re taking it on as a restoration project at any cost. Good choice of vehicle by the way! Liked them from day 1 with their whiny transmissions. I remember asking to be taken to Richmond just so I could experience a brand new one for the first time on the 371, but a Y-XAG Euro 2 DPS turned up first

I remember asking to be taken to Richmond just so I could experience a brand new one for the first time on the 371, but a Y-XAG Euro 2 DPS turned up first Thanks a lot for the advice! I grew up near one in Hemel Hempstead (Hertfordshire), SN51 TCK, of Red Eagle, and a few others which I had been on when I wasn't a spitter and they were just on my school route in Herts. All SN51s have since left the fleets of Red Eagle and Redline, and the closest one to it that's still good engine-wise is the one that I'm considering preserving. Has a bit of a struggle changing from gear 1 to 2 when kickdown is implemented but that's the only gearbox issue. The only thing I'm unsure about regarding the bus is the chassis condition, which is obviously a make-or-break. Still awaiting photos of that. That batch are 100% my favourite and I'm glad that one is already preserved, however obviously not by myself - SN51 TCX. Sorry to hear about the Richmond experience! Gutting when that happens. I'm sure you'd have experienced the batch many times since then, however :-)

I have a Question. I want to one day preserve an Ex Metroline Euro 3 Dennis Trident ex TE600 bus. Is it possible for me to storage my bus at Metroline bus depot for example at Holloway HT as I'm from North London and going to BBPG place to storage will be too far. I also want to become a Train Driver and I'm a transport enthusiast dispite the rise in costs I will have enough money to Storage, insure etc right ?

I would have thought that even if Metroline agreed to the request, it's charges would be significantly more than a enthusiast body ... I may well be wrong ... as never really investigated this ... sure others on here will be able to offer far better advice.

Abellio offer parking at Battersea which is £35 per day IIRC which works out over 5x more expensive than BBPG

I see so BBPG is my best bet. Hopefully One day I can find a place to storage my bus within the North London area

That's the one off rate, but even assuming a discount for long term storage, doubt they would knock it off to less than £200pm

Usually the cheaper it is, the less facilities there are and the location becomes less optimal (e.g. open field vs barn)

Oh okay. Do you what's the nearest barn or Fields from North London?

Oh okay. Do you what's the nearest barn or Fields from North London? Not sure. Some of the BBPG yards do have fairly decent transport access if you don't have a car

Storage in London could be anything up to £300 a month. Unless you’re in with whoever has ownership of the depot space at that moment, I wouldn’t count on storage at a working bus garage! As for money, it depends on how much disposable income you have. If you don’t have to pay rent, or a mortgage, or for children/other dependants and you don’t have other expensive hobbies then maybe. Storage alone can be a considerable monthly expense, plus you have to get to and from the place and if you are doing anything other than keeping it as an ornament, even train driver money may not stretch!

Oh okay. Do you what's the nearest barn or Fields from North London? You’ll have to do some research into this - you want a site that has some level of security and as few on site hazards as possible - my first bus was parked in a depot and within a weekend a service driver tailswung into it causing damage. You probably don’t want to be somewhere where the bus could sink while parked or moving to the access road, or where livestock can damage it!
