Have we got a better breakdown on this? Realistically, the level seems to have returned roughly to where it was pre-lockdown, this seems a bit sensationalist. Also, how do they break down? Are these actually issues around people who are mask-exempt for reasons of disability feeling abused when challenged?

No that wouldn't be a hate crime, a police officer did explain to me what a hate crime is but it made little sense to me. I suspect the increase is down to people being generally more stressed about the pandemic, face mask arguments etc.

Probably related to xenophobia, but that actually means an irrational fear of foreigners, not the often misuse for a hatred of foreigners.
