Certainly a huge shame to see, he succumbed to the very disease he worked against. However he clearly lived a remarkable life, lived to an amazing 100 years of age. Certainly will forever be appreciated by the country. He did something for the NHS that even the government couldn't do and I honestly hope that he'd remembered for many years for this.
There seems to be reports of a trip to Barbados during the Christmas period though leading to quite a mixed reaction of this news on Twitter.

I very much agree, he managed to raise millions upon millions of pounds for the NHS, fought in past wars, and just seemed like a very wonderful man, overall. He was an inspiration for lots of people, including younger children, who also wanted to be like him and raise money for the NHS. He will forever be remembered by all of us, across the world, and will never be forgotten.
RIP Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Yes, he did fly to Barbados in December (after the lockdown), with British Airways giving him and his family tickets. I think that the trip was deserved, he really deserved a break from all the work he did earlier in the year. I'd avoid looking at the replies on Twitter, to be honest, it's just toxic individuals, who could never do as much as he did, complaining, as they usually do, showing no decency after a 100-year-old veteran's death.

Yes, I agree that the holiday with his family was well deserved, he has done so much for this country. I believe he's been back here in the UK for over a month now, so it likely had nothing to do with him getting Covid, just the usual pettiness and negativity online when things like this happen. Rest in peace Sir Captain Tom Moore, you will be missed.

If anyone was allowed a trip abroad, it was him - he isn’t some Z list celeb claiming sitting on the beach as ‘work’. Condolences to his family - great man who did a lot of good for so many

RIP Captain Tom.
I did think he worked a little too hard after completing his 100 laps.

Sad day ... humanity lost a champion and a true fighter, an inspirational idol. Proves no matter who you are, you can always do great deeds
Hopefully he has given some inspiration and hope in these gloomy times
RIP, Captain Moore. The heavens have gained good company tonight .....

Very sad to see this, I literally thought it was some sick joke when I read it earlier, so was expecting him to pull through this. Just been watching the program of Life Stories on piers Morgan, it was a repeat which i saw last year. It almost bought tears to my eyes, goo sense of humour, true legend.

Very sad news about the passing of this wonderful gentleman, I'm sure his family are very proud of him for everything he's done. Some footage of him on Blankety Blank in his younger days......... youtu.be/lN4UmP5hb3Y
