If Khan wants to win he has to those things, go out on TV and explain why those houses arnt delivered and knife crime are up and make people trust him again from the critics. These days we are just losing trust with politicians as they break promises. He had very ambitious plans back in 2016 which made me liked him a lot like building 500,000 new homes in 5 years, tackle knife crime, expand the overground to south london, promised to build fire safe houses after grenfell but only renovated 5 out of thousands of flammable homes. The overground bit could happen later this year as the Govia Franchise expires later this year, but with houses its at a shocking level of breaking promises aswell with LTNs unconsallted and not helping businesses of not by creating all of those parking charges. Khan has not been keeping quiet about the lack of police enforcement London has, I don't see what else he's meant to do about knife crime really. He can't walk into a gang and tell them to stop. He was very silent when the amount of murders were happening a few years ago, when people were looking at him for reassurance, he was shying away. When various people who had youth programs tried to reach out to him he ignored them, but wasted money on over stupid things that did sweet FA. Even still I am sick of hearing we need more police from many of the candidates as it is not a true fix. We could have around 1 million more police and many of the problems we have in London are still not going to go.

Who? This was from a while back - members gave me evidence why I shouldn't vote him and I jumped off that ship.

The Conservative party messed up big time putting Shaun Bailey in as their candidate. The guy is clueless and whoever he has installed as his policy advisors aren’t the sharpest tools in the box. Sadiq Khan really ought to be given the boot, but for me the prospect of Bailey as mayor is even worse. Not sure who I will vote for....it’s a 2 horse race and I don’t see any candidate with a compelling case for my vote. I would say from his initial interviews he did appear clueless, but then I do not know if that is down to him, the media or his PR team. Seen a bit more on him now I would say he is a lot better. For me I would either vote Bailey then, Farah, then Brian Rose. Candidates are still no way as strong as previous elections.

So after having a look at Brian Rose (and for this, I'm merely focusing on the transport aspect in fairness as I did with Rose), I decided to look at the other independents and as such immediately didn't bother with Corbyn because he is the definition of an absolute nincompoop so looked at Farah London's transport policy instead - it sounds nice but I don't think it's realistic at all. I mean you can't criticise TfL mismanagement and then offer 100 days free travel as some sort of way of restoring confidence (which TfL is looking to restore confidence via an advertising campaign as Andy Byford recently said) when you are effectively doing the same thing TfL did during the pandemic. I don't think she has a grasp on the revenue aspect at all as suggested by this: "The introduction of a dynamic ticketing system will underpin my “Fare Deal” reform package. This will provide cheaper transport for all Londoners and allow City to Hall to alter fares to encourage patronage during periods of low traffic and to assist communities marginalised by the current system. Particularly those in outlying areas with poor connections to the tube network. Hospitality workers tapping in and out at the start/end of their shifts will be exempt. There will be free periods for all passengers travelling through high street tube stations at less busy times to stimulate commercial activity. Further rolling packages of incentives will be announced as part of the fare deal program" We all want cheaper fares and free this and that but I also would rather the network not have to ripped apart to cover the cost of such schemes. Right now, TfL needs all the revenue it can get and I don't think introducing salary caps on TfL staff alongside these "cost saving measures" will be enough to cover this free travel ideas. I will give her some credit though - this "Powering Up" program does sound interesting, maybe an evolution of the current consultation process where users actually have a proper say in things. Also need to take a look at the logistics of such an operation. How do you define a "High street" station? Would somewhere like Stratford or Barking, both in the middle of town centres but are Category B stations count in this or will it just be suburban stations such as Tooting Broadway? I honestly also do wonder how exactly it will work. What if I want to visit someone who I know in Ealing Broadway? If I time it in the middle of the day I'll just get a free ride to Ealing Broadway without helping the local high street. For a laugh I did also look up Piers Corbyn. He doesn't even have a website yet but his key policies that he seems to have mentioned so far include Ending the Covid con rules Reversing the Covid rules discrimination against people who refuse to wear masks and refuse to take the vaccine Homes for all A new accountable NHS, putting well-being before the profits of big-pharma Defend free speech and the right of assembly Defend Julian Assange all the way Supporting the Punjabi farmers fighting against the “new world order” New intelligent environment and transport policies Certainly just going to be a waste of ink even printing him on the ballot paper. I just worry that he'll become such a joke that he'll end up getting a sizeable number of votes. lmao at Piers Corbyn policies.

Argh why do all elections these days seemingly be those of the "I'll have to pick the least worst" kind. Even though London, as with any other urban metropolis, is a left-leaning city, the Conservatives have really not bothered to prop up a decent candidate this time around. Let's face it, Khan is going to win, regarless of his incompetency, lack of charisma and denial of some of London's most significant problems, most notably knife crime which has skyrocketed. The 2008 scene was a very unique one in the sense that Labour were fumbling under a weak government and the Tories proposed a unique and charismatic alternative candidate who really stood out. The left wing vote was also undercut by the Lib Dems, arguably at/ just after their peak in national popularity. This isn't something that is going to happen any time soon.
The third party candidates can shout as much as they like; they aren't going to achieve much. Brian Rose has the greatest chance and has used social media rather effectively, but the establishment will be sure to get their own way for sure. Look at Ross Perot in the 1990s, most notably in the 1996 US election when he was barred from the debates by the Democrat-Republican controlled commission on debates after an extremely strong performance in the 1992 election to harm his chances. So as usual it'll go down to two-party politics.
The Lib Dems continue to be useless. Their own leader is an outer-suburban London MP and yet they fail to gain any traction yet again. They truly are in trouble
I would not rely on social media at all. If we went by social media then the past two general elections the Labour party would have had a clean sweep and won, especially the last one. Brian Rose does seem like a breath of fresh air and suave like some kind on Arnold Schwarzenegger. But when it comes to the polls, there are a hell of a lot of people who do not use social media would go and vote differently. I don't even trust the news paper polls anymore as the people who reply to them, probably do not vote, lie or change their mind.

I thought LTNs were pushed out at the request of the DfT. I’m sure Johnson has also supported their rollout. Also, aren’t London Councils responsible for LTNs, rather than the Mayor. What LTNs is Khan responsible for? I will reluctantly state that I support Sadiq Khan. I don’t buy the argument from his opponents that he has mismanaged TfL. Had the government not locked down and made travel on public transport essential only TfL would still have their revenue stream and wouldn’t have needed a bailout. He’s also overseen the introduction of the ULEZ, transition of buses to hybrid and electric and the hopper fare (something I personally find very helpful) so for me he’s the best option. I did consider Farah but having read that she was planning 100 days free travel I realised she isn’t competent enough to be Mayor and if she was in charge then TfL would be in real trouble. Khan has his part to play in the mismanagement of finances with the fares freeze pledge and the hopper fare, something that benefits me but still reduces revenue for investment, as well as the ban on junk food advertising where the evidence to suggest that removing these adverts encourages healthy eating is very dubious but he also isn't the sole person to blame to here. This all starts with Boris & the government agreeing to remove the subsidy that helped the network to flourish and grow supporting the increased ridership year on year. The current and last mayor are the reasons TfL's finances are shot to pieces - Khan will likely return to office but I don't expect his financial knowledge to improve either. The ban on junk food is still laughable, because the ads still can be seen on bill boards or social media; think Khan was well out of touch. Even worse it still has not stopped kids getting fat.

I can tell you, they are only worried about transport, but the main issues with Londoners in there heads that want answers is Housing, Crime and Jobs not transport. Crime Wise I don't think Khan is as bad off as people think. While crime is going up, he's been extremely vocal about the lack of funds he has and constantly blames the Tory government for it which is correct. So Bailey is probably going to suffer in that department a lot more than Khan will. bahahahaha, I think you should be a comedian, that was hilarious.

There's especially a common trait among Tory voters to never admit they're a Tory voter due to the stigma associated with it in certain communities, most notably London which skews the data in the area. It was the same case in America with Trump where a lot of his supporters never would admit this in public polls. However London being the left city it is, I still see a comfortable Khan win. The Tories have had a better chance then ever and they blew it with Bailey running instead of Andrew Boff, or even if the re-admitted Stewart into the party I'm sure he'd have certainly given Khan a huge run for his money.

So can you tell me what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow then I've focused on transport because we are on a transport forum that has a particular interest in buses - there are other issues that are important to me as well but even then, none of the candidates seem to have a clue how tackle some of the non transport stuff as well. green eggs and ham

Patel is the one to blame there, not Khan when it comes down to enforcement. What exactly is Khan meant to do? It's quite easy to say "set up youth programmes" or "talk to youngsters" but the truth is that joining a youth programme makes you a laughing stock within a school and there's nothing to do in a youth programme. What are you meant to do, join them and save the environment or something? Certainly when I was at school up until 2017 being part of a youth movement just made you a walking joke. The fact is in London, Paris, New York etc it'll never be possible to sort out crime. The only way really is to enforce rules a lot more and make penalties far stricter. I want crime sorted out as much as the next person, knowing people who have been stabbed myself the truth is that these people will still continue to stab and kill regardless of what's thrown at them. Some of the people with knives are even top of their class, A/A* pupils.

I'd say it's shifted a lot since 2012, places like Ealing which used to be Tory areas are now Labour and pretty much not going back anytime soon. Barking and Dagenham which voted for Boris in 2008 voted overwhelmingly for Khan in 2016, one of the proportionately highest Labour voting areas at that election.

The mayor has the direct mandate for the Met Police, so the buck stops with him ... he has the ultimate responsibility.

Khan is also to blame, he has major control over policing and over measures in London, which he failed to address properly. He was more concerned on pedestrianising Oxford Street and listening to the foolishness momentum were trying to dictate to him.
