Although this doesn't affect any bus routes, a 400-yard stretch of Church Road in Ham, Richmond, will be closed from 8th to 29th March to allow toads to cross to their breeding grounds. The toads have had the road to themselves for three weeks every year since 2010, to stop them from being squashed and also reduce the chance of distracted drivers having collisions. The toads return every year from hibernation to mate in the ponds in which they were born, hence the migration. Toad patrol volunteers will enforce the closure, and will also rescue toads from drains which is a significant cause of toad death. A study has shown that the common toad population in the UK has declined by two-thirds in the past 30 years. Source: www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2021/03/02/mating-toads-closes-road-in-ham-richmond/

It's good that buses won't be allowed down that road because if one broke down it may have to be toad away.

This story reminds me of Commonside East in Mitcham where traffic's often held back without supervision for the ducks to cross, affecting for the most part the 118.

At certain times of the year you’ll see volunteers using torches to a) seek out any toads crossing or attempting to cross the road and b) warning drivers of the presence of said toads

There’s a “beware of wildlife” signpost there and the ducks cross every day I think
