Arriva are to come off the Fast-Track network in the Dartford area when it is retendered next year. They do not meet the requirements within the contract and so have chosen not to bid. They have said they are looking at other ways to protect the rest of the Northfleet operation That's an interesting development. I wonder if there is an opening for First or Stagecoach to expand their operating areas here? First could support Fasttrack from their new base at Purfleet (although ideally the vehicles would be based on the Kent side), Stagecoach could support from East Kent or even London. Agree : an interesting development. You’d have to say that if Stagecoach could support a Dartford operation from London, so could Go-Ahead. Whether they would or not is another question entirely. To me, this makes Arriva’s presence in North/West Kent as a whole a tad shaky. What do they have left that hasn’t been cut/neglected/both?

Arriva has now pulled out of a £6.1m deal to introduce electric buses in Stevenage, stating that passenger numbers in the town have not kept pace with national trends. Arriva, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, had been planning to introduce 27 new electric buses in the town. Arriva will continue to operate services in Stevenage, although it is reducing frequencies. This follows on from the decision by Arriva in December not to participate in a similar scheme for Milton Keynes. Air Quality data on St George's Way is recorded hourly, provisional figures suggest that the legal limit for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) of 40 micrograms per cubic metre of air was breached on over 300 occasions in January and February 2023. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-64892832

The money should get retained by the DfT. Presumaby will follow the MK model and be up for reallocation.

Arriva North West is consulting on the closure of its depots at Winsford and Macclesfield, this would remove Arriva services from much of Cheshire with no services operated in Winsford, Macclesfield, Northwich and Crewe. Arriva Midlands is also planning to close its Oswestry Depot, but here most of the services will be operated out of Shrewsbury or Wrexham Depots although five services operated under contract to Shropshire County Council would be surrendered. www.route-one.net/news/arriva-set-to-close-oswestry-macclesfield-and-winsford/Closure date for Winsford and Macclesfield is Saturday 22nd April, Arriva has deregistered the services effective from the following day. D&G Bus has announced that it has registered alternative services to cover routes 31, 37 and 84 and notes that it already provides a service over route 38. D&G is also negotiating with local councils so more routes may be announced in due course. D&G is inviting qualified drivers and engineers to apply for jobs and will host a number of recruitment events over the next few weeks. www.dgbus.co.uk/closure-of-arriva-depots-in-cheshire.html This means that apart from Bolton and Wythenshaw, respecively destined or likely to be franchised away, Arriva North West will just be a glorified MTL - Liverpool Green Lane, Liverpool Speke, St Helens, Birkenhead and Southport, plus former North Western depots Bootle and Runcorn, themselves of course both in Liverpool City Region. Admittedly a few ex-North Western routes live on with Arriva from these depots. In addition from long-term Runcorn routes, routes from Liverpool to Warrington or Skelmersdale and Wigan to St Helens or Southport remain with Arriva.

I can use the new bus station and ride the route to Luton Airport to include the monorail there. Plus I can include class 717 or 720 train and save having to include these on my London bus day.

www.merseytravel.gov.uk/customer-information/st-helens/Arriva appear to have jettisoned their entire sizeable St Helens school network from 16 April. Stagecoach picked up most of the work, along with smaller operators HTL Buses, Hattons Travel and Peoples Bus. They only have 3 school routes left in the entire Merseyside region.

I thought Arriva ran a large chunk of services across most of Merseyside.

As for Stagecoach in East Kent, it would be too much dead running for them, having drivers travelling dead to the Dartford area.

Although they’ve closed their Sevenoaks base so now just run out of Swanley which is not particularly ideal. It’s an interesting tender to watch could easily be a surprise here.

As far as I know Stagecoach are still running Amazon services from PD which I think are linked to 177 duties.
