Arriva Rail London wins Fleet Excellence at National Rail Awards
17 Sep 2021
Congratulations to Arriva Rail London (ARL), who took home the Fleet Excellence award at the 2021 National Rail Awards ceremony last night.
The award win recognises ARL's innovative class 315 and 317 fleet extension approach on the West Anglia route following unavoidable delays to the class 710 fleet.
Paul Hutchings, managing director of Arriva Rail London, said: "Winning the Fleet Excellence award recognises our focus on keeping the customer at the heart of everything we do at ARL. The class 315 and 317 fleet extension was an ambitious and complex piece of work for our engineering team, however they pulled it off and delivered a seamless service for our customers. I’m absolutely delighted for Kate Marjoribanks and her team. It's fantastic to see them gain this well-deserved industry recognition."
The key objective of the fleet extension was to sustain the service rather than having to significantly scale back the timetable, and the results speak for themselves:
• ARL achieved best-ever levels of performance during the extension period
• There was not a single cancellation on the route due to a lack of trains during this time
• NRPS customer satisfaction scores were maintained throughout
• Extending the 315/317 fleet also ensured the London Overground could continue providing a safe and reliable service that enabled critical workers to get to their jobs during the pandemic.
ARL was shortlisted for four National Rail Awards in total this year; Fleet Excellence, Outstanding Teamwork, Passenger Operator of the Year and Outstanding Personal Contribution for customer host Andrew (Andy) Hallisey.
"I would also like to congratulate Hatch End customer host Andy Hallisey, who was a finalist in the Outstanding Personal Contribution category. Andy has gone above and beyond to turn Hatch End into a thriving community hub and is a fantastic ambassador for the London Overground. Congratulations Andy, we’re all very proud of you!" Paul added.
The annual National Rail Awards are known for their commitment to rewarding excellence across every aspect of the railway.
This year’s awards recognised the efforts of the industry and the railway family during one of the toughest periods in its history.
