Uber are raising its prices by 10 % in a bid to attract more drivers and tackle long wait times.
Was interesting watching this on the ITV London news this evening as the response from most young Londoners was they will still pay the fares despite Buses / Tube being considerably cheaper! I wasn't aware of a shortage or long wait times until today! TfL should try capitalising on this and encourage people to use the network to get home.

TfL should be they are clueless. They have let uber decimate the bus network and do not know what to do.

The problem there is the night network is far too bare bones for it to be a reality. Many areas are poorly served by night buses and most areas are a considerable walk away from one. I'm quite lucky my local night bus is the N15 which is quite frequent bus many are only every 30 at night. I start reconsidering when a bus wait is over 7 minutes during the day and many people are the same so a 30 minute wait isn't going to be an option for most people. Especially when Ubers come when you want and where you want the level of convenience is unmatched. Uber have been struggling with longer wait times, but mostly this tends to be around 10 minutes at most and it's still an adequate trade off to be dropped off right on your doorstep and not on a bus that's always regulating and full of people. Sadly I think TfL are fighting a losing battle with late night travel. While Night tube is good, it's fast and reliable when people get to stations many people still tend to get Ubers home from there if they are unable to walk. I need to make an early morning trip in December and the night network is so bad I'm probably just going to have to get an Uber myself.

There are other apps that do the same as Uber- I generally use Bolt or Ola now.

Although they can remind about short local journeys. This is where uber has eaten into the bus market. Over the past year though as prices have risen, many drivers left uber etc. This has led many drivers rejecting short journeys that would not make them any money. So it was one of the reasons they put up the fare, so that this should be likely to unhappen, but still can possibly happen. They have also put a minimum fare of £5.50 which should be of some ease to the buses. Some journey of around 2-3 stops were barely £3.00 I have heard.

TfL has in the past used emails from registered Oyater users to send out alerts about significant changes. I remember I got one about boosters on the 47 when trains weren't calling at London Bridge (new timetable fiasco in 2019), and another email regarding the reroute of the 5 in 2017. Transport for London definitely have it in their power to promote the weekend night buses if they wanted to, and one would imagine a simple filter through albeit a lot of data would be more cost effective than actually paying for advertising space for the bus network. But as vjaska says, the Year of the Bus was in 2014; it's 2021 and TfL don't care for this modal system anymore.

One advantage of uber and over on demand cab apps is splitting the cost between people where as everyone would need to pay for the bus/tube fare.

I think another issue is people get confused or lost using the network especially when travelling to somewhere new for the first time, compared to Uber which will cut out the confusion and go straight to your door directly. Ask a random person except from their local routes/daily travel how to get to A to B off the top off their head they'll be lost.
