Works probably planned months in advance. Doubt they are too bothered about the last day of a bus service of being honest. You would still think a notice would go up regardless as normal passengers would still want to have the situation clarified. Absolutely as until tomorrow morning the 271 is still the Highgate Village link down to Nag's Head and Highbury & Islington.

Indeed the stand has closed.

Is the stand planned to become a pedestrian square or some sort of urban realm space?

TflL are very slack with closure notices and seen countless examples of large stretches of roads with no notices or bus stop closed sides when works have stopped buses serving stops.

There are are probably loads of routes currently on diversion or not serving the full routes right across London. Is it just the fact that the 271 can't run the full route on the last day that annoys people?

Indeed the stand has closed. An ignominious end to a stand which has been in constant use since December 1939!

Yes, it's only a one-day issue - but it means that a well-known and loved feature of London's bus network, which has been in constant use since December 1939, cannot be celebrated properly.

Is the stand planned to become a pedestrian square or some sort of urban realm space? I did hear some suggestion about the junction layout being altered.

Yes and aside from that how many people are going to be waiting for a 271 completely unaware that it's been curtailed at Archway? If the work had started tomorrow it wouldn't have mattered as there's the 263 instead. You really couldn't make this up.

I think the people who were doing the roadworks couldn't care less if the 271 was being withdrawn or not.

As I said elsewhere there are probably countless routes curtailed or on diversion without outrage. We all know TfL has gradually got worse with publicity so this is nothing new.

What have TfL got to do with this? Roadworks are planned by the council and the contractor. TfL can't randomly interject and ruin everyone's plan just because they want a bus to serve a stop for a day longer.

TfL can't randomly interject and ruin everyone's plan just because they want a bus to serve a stop for a day longer. Exactly and it isn’t like they are planned a day before. Roadworks are planned weeks in advance if they aren’t emergency works. Cancellation at the last minute means those crews just move on to their next jobs and the works that were cancelled go to the bottom of the list.
