Chiltern Railways has agreed a new National Rail Contract with the Department of Transport, to commence on Friday 31st December and run to the end of 2027. This is a continuation of its current 20-year contract, which has seen Chiltern Railways increase its passenger numbers through sustained investment in its trains and stations.
As part of the new contract, Chiltern Railways will undertake:
- to continue and expand the use of HybridFlex technology, allowing zero-emission operation of trains when arriving at and departing stations. This will include work on a business case to convery the entire fleet to HybridFlex technology.
- to introduce Delay Repay 15 which means passengers can be compensated if they arrive at their destination more than 15 minutes late, regardless of cause.
- a light refresh of train interiors, with improved LED lighting and CCTV on all trains.
- extended opening hours for the Passenger Contact Centre, 7 days a week.

I always liked Chiltern Railways (probably my favourite TOC), London to Birmingham £5 is amazing. Just nice to see some positives for once for the rail industry. I really like the idea of hybrid trains, and Delay Repay 15 seems too good to be true. It's also a relief to be able to contact them at weekends.

Ah fair enough - no good for myself though. I'm only entitled to the Network Railcard which doesn't cover Birmingham.
