Couldn't find a recent dedicated thread to Eastenders so thought I'd pop one up.
A space to complain about how bad the writing is these days or go down memory lane and talk about favourite past characters/events. Glad Jon Sen is leaving because I tuned in to an episode earlier in the week and the way they've botched characters like Sharon Watts into an emotional wreck when back in the good old days she was tough as nails and not to be messed with.
I do enjoy going on youtube and watching episodes from the 80s and 90s, even though I wasn't around then I have become invested in all the characters back then and it truly was much better than it is today. Some favourites- Grant, Pauline, Pat, Frank

You can really tell the difference in the quality compared to now! As a added bus bonus the 15 features regularly using a RML. Modern EastEnders has really lost its way such weak stories the current raciest story line is pretty awful and the acting of the Monroes family just doesn’t work IMO. It’s a shame episodes are still mostly 20mins especially as Corrie has managed to carry on as normal I know it has adverts but feels longer!

Yeah there seem to be a few characters at the moment who are carrying the show like Jean, Kim and Kathy. Gray Atkins getting away with murdering 3 people (including one with definite CCTV presence) is just so completely unrealistic that it's funny at this stage. And as much as people don't like him there is a big hole now Ian is taking a break.

I always said that I preferred when Eastenders was on twice a week where the quality was very strong and more realistic, compared to nowadays where it's now four times a week but more a pantomime of it's former self. However i reckon EE did well with the character of Sean Slater, baring in mind he's very much a rehashed Grant Mitchell where he basically has three phases; happy, grumpy and maniac. His relationship with Jean Slater over the years was gripping and it was great that he made a suprise cameo appearance last month, actor Robert Kazinski then in London for a short spell from his home in Los Angeles.

Apologies for my language in the previous post, just a sign that I was getting a bit too comfortable on here.
One other bizarre storyline that I think deserves a mention was last Christmas' storyline of Sharon trying to kill Ian! Imagine what Julia Smith would've thought of that one...

I’m surprised there isn’t more Low Bridge signage along Bridge Street, what with that TA ploughing into the bridge a few years ago… I notice Walford Garage has more up to date signage nowadays though. What’s allocated to the 15 nowadays, last time I saw one, it was those god awful Plaxton Primo’s!

Seeing as this is the appropriate thread I thought I would post the sad news that June Brown, aka Dot Cotton, has passed on at age 95. She was one of the originals from the show's start from February 19th 1985 although wasn't in the pilot episode (appearing not long after). www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-43476603.ampI imagine EE will likely do a parallel episode to this sad occasion with Dot Cotton in a similar fashion they did with character Frank Butcher, played by departed comedian Mike Reid.

This is so sad I remember watching her with the late Jim Bardon who played her on screen husband Jim Cotton they are now together having a laugh.
