youtu.be/GL_JePosVqEI found this YouTube video of this area this should bring back memories to older members of this forum (including me!) from back in the day this was filmed on a Sunday when OPO was in operation.

Was not born yet (only 3 months away though) but this era of buses fascinates me, seeing Olympians absolutely everywhere and RMs during the week. Also when you'd get queues 4 or 5 strong of buses down Oxford Street, was really part of the ambiance, a far cry from today. Thanks for sharing.

Can't believe how dated 2001 looks now! 20 years gone just like that!
There was so much variety on the bus scene back then especially with both step entrance and low floor buses in service.

Yep - what's striking is that the footage is naturally skewed towards the older stuff (Ms, Ls) with only glimpses of the "new" stuff (TNs on the 7/23, DLA on the 159, AV on the 6 and even a DNL on the 274)... and yet those "new" buses are already distant memories.

Does anyone know why the Arriva London South Ls seemed to have strange side blinds - hard to explain but you will see around 38 seconds in the side blind looks like a cut blind slipped into the blind box, I remember the 68 was the same back in the late 90s. I hope that makes sense

I was 8 🤣 and still remember what that area looked like nice to see the early plaxtons that first had brings back good memories.

Thanks for this I don't remember the RMs on the 25 only under first with the bendies and the VNs. Did the 25 have the plaxtons in between the bendies and VNs?

Thought so I veguly remember them and I very much remember the hydrogen demonstrators that ran with the bendies on the 25.

I hope that makes sense Hard to tell from that footage, but could be shoddily-made inserts that didn't fit the blind properly. The TH allocation on the 159 was quite a recent development at that stage so 159 probably wasn't on the original blinds.
That doesn't explain the 68 though, given that would have been on the L blinds from the start.

No, the Plaxtons came before the bendies. First won the route in 1999 using TNs, which were soon replaced by a mix of TALs and TNLs. Stagecoach won the route back in 2004 using bendies, then First won it back in 2011 using VNs.

I hope that makes sense I think it's just something that's in front of the blind inside the box as the blind itself looks relatively normal - ahh I miss the L's a lot, so much of my childhood and secondary school years was spent on one

Yes had TNs for a time then TNLs. Thought so I veguly remember them and I very much remember the hydrogen demonstrators that ran with the bendies on the 25. Those TNs on the 25 as revolutionary as they were was a complete let down from the seating capacity. I think it was only able to seat 39 people as opposed to the the 79 seat Olympians previously on the route. That was why the TALs were drafted in and they gave those TNs their marching orders to NP for the 97 and 357 in 2000
