Fleet updates
23065 - still being prepped for MOT - ramp requires attention.
MAL108 - will be withdrawn from service from 3rd September. Nothing wrong with it, but insurance renewals are due and I don’t want to pay to keep it on the policy! If it’s out this weekend that will likely be for the last time.
TA23 - new tandem pump fitted and cooling fan now operable. Serviceable.
VLA170 - stored.
VLA176 - one boost leak fixed, four more appear! Will persevere with it as I’d like to carry out cosmetic work on it, but not until it’s performing to the standard I’d like.

Sorry if this has been asked already but when you first got the O license was you authorised a set amount of vehicles? If this was the case, every time you added a new bus to the fleet did you have to apply to the TC to have it authorised vehicles be upped?

There’s no limit to the number of vehicles that can be added to a licence, or hired in. Authorisation only comes into play when they are in active use for hire and reward - and as RBH only ever operates one vehicle at a time, authorisation is only required for one vehicle. RBH has one O-licence disc which is displayed in whichever vehicle is being used. No plans to apply for more discs as there’ll only be one bus operating in service at any one time.

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of Replacement Bus Hire being granted the insurance required to operate for hire and reward. With VLA170 reinstated and ready to go, this allowed the advertisement of the business for customers. In a few weeks, the anniversary of the first day of revenue earning service will be celebrated.
Given the way the operation runs, a commercial decision has been made to cease recruitment of drivers for the foreseeable future. The operation is fully staffed and shall continue the way it has been these last few months, as it is working and incredibly enjoyable.
Fleet updates
23065 - VOR awaiting MOT
MAL108 - to be withdrawn serviceable at 2359 today
TA23 - tandem pump works complete and defective door controller rectified. Serviceable
VLA170 - VOR stored
VLA176 - serviceable

Fleet updates
23065 - VOR awaiting MOT. This week it had its Hanovers fixed so the rear one now works and they all can be configured properly. The electric ramp is also going in favour of a manual fold out ramp.
MAL108 - serviceable. This will be leaving the fleet as planned in a few days time.
TA23 - stored unserviceable.
VLA170 - passed its PSV MOT test this week. It is for sale and will be marketed (if necessary) shortly.
VLA176 - had its periodic maintenance inspection this week. New engine belt fitted due to early signs of wear with the old one and a metal plate in the floor was replaced after cleaning revealed some corrosion. Work is still ongoing to get the power upgrades implemented properly - a plan has been made to remap the ECU which should hopefully be ready to go soon.
Next planned job will be Barnes to Twickenham followed by Barnes to Woking on Sunday 25th September, no vehicle allocated yet.

Update on MAL108.
It has been in the workshop for its periodic maintenance inspection and defect repairs. It is allocated to Barnes - Twickenham / Barnes to Woking this Sunday, which is going to be its final job for Replacement Bus Hire, as it will be heading straight from Woking to pastures new.

Thought I'd start a thread to post the comings and goings of this little operation. Replacement Bus Hire does what it says on the tin - supplies vehicles for rail replacement services and also loans out vehicles on a temporary basis. Vehicles are also hired on in occasion. Current fleet (September 2022) V323 KGW / TA23 - preserved LX04 LCC / 23065 - awaiting MOT LJ55 BVH / VLA 176 - active LJ55 BVY / VLA 170 - active - hire vehicle Previous fleet V311 KGW / TA11 - sold V318 KGW / TA18 - spares donor/scrapped BL57 OXJ / MAL108 - sold Did TA11 ever do any rail services for you whilst you had it? Can’t have imagined you had it for that long!

Can’t have imagined you had it for that long! No. It was under my ownership for a couple of months and I intended to reactivate it and use it as a spare bus given it was PSVAR compliant. However I decided in the end it was one project too many to spend money on, so I sold it. TA23 had PSVAR upgrades instead and did one duty in revenue earning service to cover for a VLA which was at the workshop.
