RIP June Brown (a.k.a. Dot Cotton)

June Brown, the actor who played the put-upon Dot Cotton in EastEnders for more than three decades, has died age 95. She first appeared in EastEnders in the show's first year of broadcasting, 1985, and made her last appearance as recently as 2020. The character had a birth date of 1938 but the actor was considerably older than that, being born in 1927. Made up and styled as Dot Cotton she looked decidedly down-trodden and dowdy, but in real life June Brown was a cheerful, stylish and gregarious person and was surprisingly good-looking. 

June Brown has received several awards for her portrayal of Dot Cotton, and has been honoured with a MBE in 2008 and an OBE recently in December 2021. 

She was married twice (her first husband died) and had six children with her second husband.
