Scrapping the route in general would be very bad... The route is used alot during the week and would definitely cause alot of issues. Could 477 possibly end up in TFLs hands soon? Agree that it is an important service running through Crockenhill, Swanley, Hextable and Wilmington. Out of those 4 places, only Swanley has other regular bus services. The 477 still mostly runs outside Greater London so outside TfL's remit. If Arriva axed the 477 completely then it would be up to KCC to find a replacement. Hopefully Go Coach would take it on. Swanley needs a bus to Orpington and a regular one to Dartford (you can’t count the once in a blue moon 429), it’s two nearest big towns other than Sidcup. It’s a life line to Crockenhill, Hextable and Wilmington as well.

Go-Coach would seem most likely to take on the 477 if Arriva dropped it as they have a garage in Swanley.

No as TfL are not interested in new cross border routes or ones not under their control as we saw when the 84 was withdrawn only for the Potters Bar to St Albans section to be saved and the London section lost Off topic slightly but the only county I can remotely see getting further TfL routes in any similar situation is Surrey, certainly not the southern end of the 477 if it ever goes.

Will only be a short distance but Surrey is getting 434 extended further into it to reach Caterham.

It’s strange how Surrey helps to fund so many TFL routes into it’s territory but Kent doesn’t.

The 477 has been in decline for sometime now and Arriva don't seem particularly interested in improving it, I can't help thinking Go Coach would do a better job. I'm not surprised that the Bluewater section has been axed with passengers expected to use Fastrack but the loss of the Sunday service is terrible. Go-Coach aren't bothered about service work anymore it seems. Most of their service work has been cut back as much as possible and they are pushing Go2 more than local service.

Yep, Go Coach’s route 3 (originally the 431) from Orpington to Sevenoaks has never returned for instance.

Yes you're probably right, the Go Coach MD said at Detling that they were moving towards the engineering side of things because of the uncertainty about local services.

The Go 2 on demand service is all well and good around the Sevenoaks District, but you need to have routes going into neighbouring areas as well such as Dartford, Gravesend, Tonbridge etc. With all the cut backs in Kent it’s getting harder and harder to do so.

Kent CC are going to withdraw the 474/5 which will leave villages like Bean with no bus service at all. Did I once hear Boris Johnson saying positive things about buses being the life blood of the country, or some other waffle ? Turning out well isn’t it 😡

[br More accurately such has been the ignorance of local government and public transport by our government.

Most of these services are school , shop , old age pensioner , not commuter. KCC have been spectacularly brutal. As others have said , Swanley which should be good bus territory is effectively a dead end for any onward travel into Kent by bus unless you want to go to Dartford or West Kingsdown. Even then the 233 doesn’t serve the station.

I think the 477 deserves a Sunday service but other than that I can't see too much scope for improving things in the Swanley area.
