The RMT has now reached agreement with Network Rail on the latest pay offer. Members voted 76% in favour and 24% against, on a turnout of 90%. The RMT has confirmed that it is no longer in dispute with Network Rail.
Network Rail, for their part, have removed their insistence that the deal is conditional on RMT accepting their "modernising maintenance" agenda. The Union will continue to scrutinise and challenge, including on safety.
Although RMT members at some Train Operating Companies are still in dispute, the impact of strikes will be much reduced in future.

I expect a settlement can't be far off now, especially as RMT is no longer in dispute with Network rail.

This morning, the ASLEF EC rejected the RDG proposal. Copies are now being emailed out to members. The EC have announced new 24hr strike action on 12th, 31st May and 3rd June. Withdrawal of non-contractual overtime 15th to 20th May (inc) and 13th May and 1st June.
Strike day on FA cup final day 😮💨😬

I think the cynical date choice is appalling. More so for the FA cup final but it’s also Epsom Derby. In my mind if a strike is needed then it’s more acceptable to strike on weekdays not weekends. And especially not on FA cup final day.

Similar to how the strikes went on the Christmas travel days.

I think people are angry with them now.

But that’s the point - the more impact a strike has, the more chance of getting the government to actually listen which they’ve shown in several instances with different groups that they are unwilling to do so.

This is true but the point I’m making isn’t what the government will or won’t do. It’s the public feeling. Which until now has been pretty relaxed.

The rail unions are turning this country into an international laughing stock.
Aslef held a strike during the Commonwealth Games, and will again on the eve of the Eurovision Song Contest. Then RMT will hold a strike on Eurovision Day itself.

One valid question being asked is why the RMT consistently refuses to put the offer on the table to its membership. Many other disputes have been settled in recent months by this means; workers have actually been willing to accept what the unions perhaps felt was not quite the best offer. Even the members are asking for a vote. Without wishing to stray into muddy political waters I leave you to make up your own minds about the reasoning behind this stance.

Then RMT will hold a strike on Eurovision Day itself. Think it’s the government rather than the unions which has succeeded in doing that?
