It is not just the fuel companies made a fortune, the government also has on the rising prices, as more than half of what you pay for at the pump goes back to the treasury. That money back into the treasury helps pay for the NHS, benefits, civil servants. If you cut that than the government borrows more pushing the entire country further into debt. Don’t like it, don’t drive. Simple. Bit hard to transport goods , build new houses , and move practically everything with a "don't like it , don't drive mentality" literally everything will keep on rising if fuel prices keep rising , having worked in Transport/Haulage for 14 years I've have never seen anything like this , a lot of companies are going to go bust and the knock on effects are huge , those who have money won't really suffer but as per usual the poorest in society will be hit , in an ideal world all transport would be green but it's just not practical .

I work in logistics so I understand the realities of the industry. But there are already government schemes in place that allow employees to claim back some costs if they are using their own vehicles. I know if I take my car from London to France I can claim expenses back, it’s like 40p a mile and anything else from my company. That should be extended through the government to key industries like logistics, transport and the NHS or at least capped but then if logistic companies aren’t buying fuel in advance that’s a flaw in their business model. But really if you are choosing to run a car you have to accept the costs that come with it and high fuel costs are just part of the package at the moment. Fuel costs are cyclical, they will reduce eventually.

My local BP garage has been taking the pee the last week with its pricing! They have only just reduced the price of petrol from £1.89 to £1.87! I found £1.77 at ASDA today which seemed cheap compared to the last few months! It’s welcome relief but still can’t see prices going back to the £1.30 level.

My local BP is at £1.82 which is the same as sainsbury’s and Asda!

Thought I was just seeing things! My local Asda has unleaded petrol at £1.46!
Edit: False alarm the sign as you enter Asda Beckton is displaying £1.46 in error. The correct price is displayed on the forecourt and pumps at £1.66! Thought that was a big drop.

Thought I was just seeing things! My local Asda has unleaded petrol at £1.46! Supermarket petrol is quite often cheaper than the average station. Though it's good to see petrol prices going down
