The driver toilet on Southend Crescent I know when the 160 was at DT a few drivers have stopped mid route to use that toilet and on the B12 drivers have used to Toilets at Friswell Place. Every route I have driven has at least 1 toilet at the end however some would only be open during opening hours example Bluewater and Woolwich. But then were there ever any comments from management? It was never said that we could leave the bus with passengers unattended for it though they never said we couldn't... As long as the engine is off and the drivers cab is locked. No one can stop you from using the Toilet Midroute.

I remember hearing from someone I know who used to drive the 12 that London bus drivers were allowed to wee on the back wheel of their bus if they needed to and that was bought in towards the end of the last century. I've no idea if this is actually true though. I'm sure female drivers would be thrilled trying to do the same TfL really do take the p!ss Let’s just say I wouldn’t be enthralled if I saw a driver doing it at crossharbour Asda! Back on topic - I have thought of this topic several times while doing end to ends (especially the one time I did the 142, 258, Piccadilly line to Sudbury and Harrow) and then the 18 and couldn’t find a toilet fill Euston! This is basic human right, especially for someone who is ultimately branded responsible for passenger safety Intriguingly what happens on the night routes? Eg - an N89/N199, what do drivers do?

I've no idea if this is actually true though. I've heard something like that, apparently it dates back to the days of the horse and cart? Hopefully things have improved a bit since then and drivers should have access to toilet facilities at least at one end of the route and at both ends for any long routes. It can be a problem in any driving job and there really should be more public toilets about. I think one is where there was a law years ago for hackney carriages but is no longer legal. It was for males, that they were allowed to urinate on the rear offside wheel as long as his right hand is touching the vehicle.
