London bus cuts: Bosses did not think of ethnic minority staff, MP saysTransport bosses have failed to consider the impact of planned bus cuts on its large ethnic minority workforce, a Labour MP has claimed.www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-62506498Seriously!!! What a load of nonsense. It seems as though this guy is trying to get his 15 minutes of fame. It is VERY laughable as it shows he clearly does NOT understand how the industry works. At the moment companies now have huge vacancies in London and cannot even cover all the jobs with rest days and overtime. It has been made worse with the summer holidays where the maximum amount of people off are on annual leave. Even before this many of the companies were running with vacancies. Even with all the said routes cut, it still would not cover the amount of job posts not filled.

So his white saviour logic condemns the white workers to be fired and the ethnic minority workers should given priority, even though that would also be illegal discrimination. What a load of bullshit. It’s this kind of affirmative action that I as a person of mixed heritage have always been against. It shouldn’t be an us and then situation, we are all human at the end of the day.

The MP’s comments are particularly annoying as it implies that ethnic minorities are less capable than their white counterparts of finding a job. TfL are making cuts based on sound business rationale. It has absolutely nothing to do with race, and it should not be a factor here. To say to any organisation that they cannot make changes to their workforce based on the demographic of people they employ sets a horrible precedent. All employees should be worth the same consideration, regardless of colour. I hope the union doesn’t take the race bait here. The issue should be about collective job losses (if any) and ensuring drivers can be redeployed to other routes or roles without the need for compulsory redundancies.
