It won’t stop them. You’ll always get fare dodgers.

It won’t stop them. You’ll always get fare dodgers. Yes of course you will but the £100 will be more of a deterrent. The current £20 fine is probably worth a gamble for those who fare dodge.

It won’t stop them. You’ll always get fare dodgers. Indeed and this just smacks of a desperate attempt to quell fare evasion which is out of control in some areas since the pandemic meant few if any ticket checks on trains.

It won’t stop them. You’ll always get fare dodgers. It doesn't help when stations have no barriers too. The DLR has plenty of stops where you can just walk in and ignore the tap-in such as Deptford Bridge and Pontoon Dock as long as you're careful.

Exactly, it's either £20 or the cost of a single. If you're fare dodging on a line where the single costs more than £20 technically you're not even fined.

On Southeastern if there are barriers they are often left open and unattended all day. At St Mary Cray the other day, ticket office closed and both machines not working, impossible to purchase a ticket even if you wanted to......... unless everyone is expected to buy them online now?

Barriers, whilst necessary, don’t stop fare evasion - a couple of Saturdays ago, I witnessed someone pass through barriers without paying with just a bit of force. Also, your St. Mary Cray example is a little misleading given anyone using Oyster can get to Central London or Swanley regardless of the ticket machines or office not being available

DfT are footing the bill so nobody cares
