My Passion - Diesel Bus Route List

Hey Guys & Gals!

I've had the flu since last week so been at home, to kill time I have made this list below.

As I'm a major Diesel bus fan and due to the factor that they are decreasing rapidly, I've created a list of routes that *still continue* to be operated with them.

Please note, this is routes that are *allocated* or form a higher amount daily, not rare appearances. I do hope that this list will assist enthusiasts like myself who prioritise Diesel buses to travel with.

An introduction rant:

I do predict that this is the final year that it'll be possible to get around London exclusively with Diesel buses, that is a note stated on my travel plan which I created to offer me guidance whilst travelling.

I do a lot of walking in between bus routes and in Central London (where Diesel buses aren't permitted whilst in passenger service). Usually I take route 476 to King's X, 394 to Angel from N/E London, route 225 or 199 to Canada Water from SE London then walk and finally 44 or 170 from SW London.

By next year 2024, travelling on Hybrid + Electric buses will become a daily need.

Please note: some of these routes have a mixed partial allocation with Hybrid and/or Electric buses.

I've grown up with Diesel vehicles which got me into buses and I'm very grateful for the fantastic times and journeys I have had on them 🙂

This list is up to date of *Feb 2023* and will continue decreasing.

If you wish please share your fave Diesel bus, what you like about them in particular and how they got you into buses.

Just to let you know the 265 is due to go electric and the 280 shouldn’t be on your list. It’s official allocation is hybrids but being AL they are hardly ever on the route. You’ve also left off the K2/3/4/5, they are all diesel as well.

204 & 226 are due to convert to electrics - looks like you mixed up 240 with 204 as the 240 isn't due any hybrids or electrics, currently still TE's.

E1 is operated with ADH class hybrids

E11 is missing, it uses diesel MMC's under Abellio

H3 uses same diesel Solos as H2 under Metroline

H11 uses diesel Enviro 200's under RATP

H17, H18 & H19 all use diesel MMC's under RATP (H17 will continue using them on a new contract under Metroline later this year)

H20 uses diesel MMC's under Abellio

H32 is still SP operated under RATP for the next few weeks

W5 is still diesel Solos and 1 Enviro 200 under Stagecoach currently but has electrics on order

On another note, 419 is run by RATP, E10 is run by Abellio and there is no 459

434 is operated by Go-Ahead London, not Abellio. They haven’t operated it for nearly 10 years!

W5’s new contract started on 4th February, no indication when the electrics will arrive. You’ve put down routes with electrics expected almost imminently like 339 for example hence why I mentioned the W5

Strictly speaking I’d argue that all “hybrids” are actually diesel - without it they wouldn’t get very far!

While it is an excellent list, I noticed that route 33 is in a sense part electric and some BEs due to enter service on route 235 are being used on route 33.

The routes that will be listed must have a Diesel allocation, this will include routes that have partial allocation.

Anything that has been confirmed to move away from Diesel bus is NOT included.
