Very sad news. One of the legends I grew up loving her music. And her performance in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome , and the accompanying song …just brilliant.

Regardless of our disagreement, can’t deny you have good taste in music - great song and movie. Simply the Best, Proud Mary & Private Dancer are really good as well

Showing my age but also want to make mention of 1966 “River Deep – Mountain High” recorded with her then husband Ike that was written / produced by Phil Spector using his famous “Wall of Sound”, and later also blasting out a duet with Bryan Adams “It’s Only Love”. But for my money Tina’s finest moment was writing and recording the 1973 semi-autobiographical funk/rock overload “Nutbush City Limits” belting out in her own inimitable fashion “A church house, gin house / A school house, outhouse / On Highway Number Nineteen / The people keep the city clean / They call it Nutbush / Oh, Nutbush / Call it Nutbush city limits”.“Proud Mary” was of course written by John Fogerty and first recorded by his underrated band Creedence Clearwater Revival and Private Dancer was written by Mark Knopfler who originally intended to put this out as part of “Love Over Gold”.

Nutbush City Limits - I read years ago was all about where she grew up as a child. She didn’t seem to age & consequently i think this has made a lot of people quite sad today because it’s such a shock. She hasn’t really been in the limelight for a few years. Ive never been one for attending vigils or anything but I would love there to be a concert in her memory.

An absolute legend who took complete control and turned her life and career around. In the divorce settlement all she asked for was to keep her famous recording name. She didn't even receive royalties from Nutbush City Limits.
Watching her stadium performances in more recent years on YouTube, you see she has the same musicians and dancers over the years - she obviously cared for the people she worked with and had a real rapport with them.
She always had a special rapport with the United Kingdom and with Europe generally. A United States that was still largely racially segregated didn't really understand her early music (with Ike and Phil Spector) but the British couldn't get enough of it.
If you ever get chance, watch the film "What's Love Got to Do With It?", based on her life story. It's a hagiography, but it's a great watch. Angela Bassett, who plays Tina, gives it everything she's got and Laurence Fishburne is a suitably sleazy and creepy Ike. It's the only film I've seen in the cinema where the audience gave a standing ovation at the end.

River Deep - Mountain High is my all time favourite song from Tina, partially because it's one of the earliest overall songs I remember as a kid in the 70s....that one time waking up to either Mom or Dad playing it on the record player on a Saturday morning. Going to the mid 80s I remember watching an episode of Knight Rider where to my suprise Tina's song What's Love Got to Do with played in that season 4 (1985-86) opener, the one where KITT got repaired to then gain his appearance altering Super Pursuit Mode function. In tribute to Tina i will be watching the 1993 movie What's Love Got to Do with it, portrayed by Angela Bassett. RIP Tina Turner
