It was one of the final routes still operated by Metrobuses. If these were replaced by cascaded rather than new buses, its most recent new buses will have been from 1980! The Ms were indeed replaced by cascaded buses. When the 204 was retained in 2002 a mid-contract upgrade for the 240 was added, and a batch of new TPLs was ordered for both routes. For standardisation purposes the TPLs went instead to HT and PB, cascading newish VPLs to EW. So you do have to go back to 1980 for brand new buses on the route! Jeez that’s a long time 😂 that’s why I said i can’t remember the last time the 240 had new buses and this confirms it 😂 d*mn since 1980 😳

Here's another one for you folks. The 221. Does anyone know when that route was last awarded with NEW vehicles on tender. In 1999 with the DLAs.

240: i can’t remember the last time that the 240 ever received brand new buses. It was supposed to get new buses in 2012 when it was retained with brand new buses but never got them but had existing TEs instead. It was one of the final routes still operated by Metrobuses. If these were replaced by cascaded rather than new buses, its most recent new buses will have been from 1980! Yep they were replaced by cascaded VPLs like redexpress it and the 204 was meant to get new TPLs but got cascaded VPLs instead.

Those early DLAs used to go on a number of WN routes, I remember some of them had rear windows retrofitted after they moved the blind box. DLAs 1-47 were split between WN and CT, 2-20 went to the 242. R101GNW was the first DLA, I believed it's preserved now

Virtually almost as bad as the 97 Its looking very likely we’re gonna finally get a new bus award for the 97 this time round though 😂 Talking about the 97 I just realised they only announced one route (325) out of tranche 864 a few weeks ago. It has happened like this with other tranches but wonder what held up the other results.

Maybe TFL are still investigating if some of the routes (215/238) could use surplus LTs to bring the cost down a bit.

the 302 weirdly. I say that the 302 last truly got new buses in 1998 with its new DLDs. It's been awarded new buses ever since but never gained. In 2010 it was retained with brand new single deckers and double deckers but was fully converted instead and gained existing VPs. In 2017 it was retained with new VWHs. They did materialise but they were diverted mostly to the 52. Now it allocated with existing 62 reg VWHs.

So now we can say the last time the 238 got new vehicles on tender was in 2012. Wowsers.
Still waiting for the 97 result now.

The 32 was last awarded new buses in 2009 but only got them 3 years later in 2012 but only partially and it only received 11x 12 reg TEs (TE1307-1317) and the existing 05 TAs from the 266 made up the rest of allocation. But since then it's had existing buses ever since.
