I’m surprised no one’s made this already but as I’m sure many of you know I’m on a crusade to tick off every London bus route. So I made this for anyone else who’s trying to do the same. I’m only doing regular daytime routes, definitely no interest in school routes nor will I be running around the night routes. I’m not too bothered about e2e’s, just any length of journey. However I try to avoid doing just one or two stops to tick it off, as that’s not really experiencing the route. # of daytime routes : 542How many have you done?

I've done over 300 routes, 270 of them are end to end. Aiming to hit 300 by the end of the year which is very achievable as long as I'm ok

Using your criteria, I've been on every daytime non school route bar the 969 as I did have every daytime route done end to end before Covid hit - I'm now about 15 or so routes out. My only rules are I must do the whole end to end ride in one sitting or if turned short, I must stay at that stop immediately afterwards and finish the journey that way

However I try to avoid doing just one or two stops to tick it off, as that’s not really experiencing the route. # of daytime routes : 542How many have you done? 378 but I've only counted 356 as I like to have an 'acceptable' photo of the bus I travelled on properly blinded to count (exceptions made for routes that end in '18' e.g. 318/718 ). Focus now on e2e, specifically diesel DD routes.

I have done 337 routes end to end plus a handful (~10) partially. Aim to get to 350 first and then hopefully 400 by end of year!

Every time a route withdrawal gets announced I’ll make sure I do it before it goes but I’ll remove it from the total of routes I’ve done, when it’s withdrawn. So for me routes like the 10, 48 etc won’t count towards the 453 routes I’ve now taken. I did the 455 yesterday as that’s going eventually, and when that and the 168 goes they will come off the route total (because the amount of routes I’ve got left to ride will still remain the same), but I still make a note of them. Obviously when new routes come along like the S2, 439, 443, X34 then they’ll get added on to the list of routes I need to cover. I don't know if I was unfortunate or what because the majority of times I tried to do an end to end of that route it would either stop short at Jubilee Clock, Willesden Junction or Acton High Street. I think I've only been able to successfully do the end of that route probably 8 times out of the countless times I've attempted it. The worst one was when it terminated at North Acton.

I've done 329 routes end to end but I need to redo quite a few which have changed since I completed them. Of course a few of the routes I did have been withdrawn since too. I do take a lunch break just not in the middle of any given route - mostly, it's done between routes or I factor in a stopping off place for a particular place to eat (for example, if I pass through Lewes and I only want a snack, there is a particular fantastic independent bakers there where I would eat and so that would be factored in). I try to do the same with trains but I'm less strict with that one How I look at it is everyone has different rules & there is no right or wrong way to do it - it's all about getting the most enjoyment from it all

It’s funny how you can tell from my remaining list the grey areas of my exploration zones, it’s pretty obvious to tell I’ve only ever been to Orpington once 😂 the ultimate challenge would be to do all 11 R routes in one day (not e2e obviously), but that’s a tall order given how low the frequency is for many of them, not a lot of margin for error. Uxbridge and Bromley I’ve been to quite a few times actually but yeah there’s a lot of routes there, so will take at least one to two visits each to get those.
