Equipmake is to repower eight existing double-deckers to battery-electric for Newport Transport. Five are Alexander Dennis Enviro400s already with the operator and three will be diesel-electric hybrid Volvo B5LH models with Wrightbus bodywork sourced from the used market. The Enviro400 conversions will be equipped with 382kW/h of battery capacity to deliver a 150 mile range for use on a mix of school and public services. The B5LHs will receive 218kW/h of energy storage. That will give a 90-mile range for use on school routes. full info here

There are also a couple of ex Preston Bus B5LH/Gemini 2's that are avaible for further use if I remember correctly with least one of them from that batch is already converted to fully electric by Equipmake.

Can't find any other Newport Bus thread ... so thought I will post here www.route-one.net/news/newport-transport-receives-first-yutong-e9l-and-u11dd-electrics/Newport Transport has received the first examples of the Yutong U11DD and E9L models. The decker I think looks a lot better in their livery than the red and black calamity paintwork that was on the demonstrator. The E9L, has been slightly extended to make the front door large enough to take a wheelchair, rather than having a smaller front door and a middle door ... Contender for TfL work?

I was thinking the same thing about the E9L. At 9.75m it could be built with a two-door layout that would suit TfL specs. However someone on here (can't remember who, sorry) recently stated that Yutong don't offer autonomous emergency braking, which is now part of TfL's requirements. If true that would rule out the E9L, which is a shame as there still isn't much choice when it comes to smaller vehicles.

Equipmake is to repower... Whatever happened to the Beulas double deck that was due to enter trials with GAL?
