I hear that HS2 is now going underground North Acton and South Ruislip was this always the plan or was it a change of plan?
Because it is now going underground will the Acton to Northolt remain unchanged?

And just as well! Previously they would have to knock down 18 bridges, including remodelling the Hanger Lane Gyratory! Glad they saw some sense. I'd rather bin this stupid project, imagine all the countryside that is being lost, and the houses too, had they not built the tunnel through Ruislip. The golf course in West Ruislip closed in 2019 and they've made a mess of the area thanks to HS2. It used to be a nice place to go to, but now it looks like a pile of poo. The same can be said as far as Harvil Road, and also around the Chalfont area, forgotten where exactly since I haven't been since 2019 but even then they started ruining the landscape. HS2 in my opinion is one of the most controversial transport projects to go ahead ever in this country.

What’s worse is plenty of cities/large towns across the country have been crying out for tram systems (particularly Leeds) and hopefully with the Very Light Rail concept taking off in Coventry (reportedly only £10m per kilometre, about 20% that of a conventional tram and having far quicker construction costs), such a system could be rolled out elsewhere in the country, including in London (West London Tram, 653 anyone?). £100bn could have gone to far better use, that could have meant 10000km of VLR which could have revolutionised city travel; the equivalent of 100 Metrolinks in the way of coverage. I won’t doubt that HS2 has its benefits but I can only see costs of constructing the route ballooning and ballooning, to the point where I suspect some legs of the proposed very simply won’t happen.

And it will be very much behind schedule too. I do feel like the project is a recipe for disaster, disastrous environmental and financial impacts, for limited gains. I can't see people being content with having their house knocked down just because a new railway is being built next to their house.

So with this change has the Northolt to Acton line changed and does it still join the GWR / Queen Elizabeth at Old Oak Common and go to Paddington?

Do you think that a new underground line could be created by using the existing HS2 tunnel?
