I mind mind is getting fuzzy but did Travel London ever have a middle stair case Plaxton President? I seem to remember one on the 3 I think. Yes they did, it was coded TA21. The reg was T135AUA, DAF DB250LF. I only remember becuase its sister reg vehicles, T134AUA/T136AUA, were used on the Portsmouth Uni shuttle until 2009 when they were replaced with newer stock ADL E400s. This was during my time as the uni.

Double Deckers easily fit at Pools in the Park when I was at a Westbus I bought in Double Decker Tri-Axles and Scanias there on school swimming contracts, it’s not tight at all...so no excuse for 490 to terminate at Manor Circus if DD operation Hopefully we should see the odd DD appearance on the 490 now that there is a double deck route based at TF!

I don’t know but do remembering a photo of TA21 blinded for the 3 once but I cannot remember if it was from a book or the internet.

They were previously on the 60 by Capital Logistics/TGM and I believe they were owned by London Buses and were leased to Sovereign for the 114 contract

I also don’t remember what happened to the rest of the DAF batch after they finished on the 114

It was also used on the 156 and 344 after the bus moved to QB for a while prior to its return off lease

The DAFs were ordered by London Buses but were actually owned by a leaseco (I think Dawsonrentals) rather than being owned outright by London Buses. They were then allocated by LB / TfL to the relevant operator - first CapLog/TGM for the 60, then Sovereign for the 114. This situation stemmed from Capital Logistics' choice to use vehicles provided by London Buses when they were awarded the 60. The option to have vehicles provided by London Buses was available at the time but was not popular (with the obvious exception of some Routemaster-operated routes); most operators preferred to procure vehicles themselves.
When the 114 gained new buses in late 2004 TfL had no further use for the DAFs, so they were returned off-lease and were made available on the market. Travel London leased one (TA21) as a temporary top-up for their fleet. Some of the others were bought by Southdown PSV for their Surrey CC contracts (409/410/411 etc) so remained in the London area for a while. Two were bought by Wiltax and used on private hire / school contracts. A couple turned up on a Portsmouth Uni contract as previously mentioned.
The Optare-bodied examples were harder to shift on the second-hand market. I remember a couple of them ended up as mobile advertising boards!

The 60 saga was quite extraordinary (if not farcical) at the time, having been awarded to Capital Logistics and buses being ordered (but not built or delivered ready for the contract) so the route was run by Blue Triangle and Selkent, along with loads of other operators.

I have a vague memory of a centre staircase Spectra on the 60. Slow and very dark inside at night - tinted windows combined with a rather stingy provision of saloon lighting!
Also recall riding one of those things on the 114. It was overtaken aggressively by a N plate NV Olympian on Victoria Road which left us for dust and was never seen again. Having vehicles with such dramatic disparities in performance wasn't great for the service!
