I don't understand that theory either. One person can only drive one car, how that can the be expected to drive a second I don't know. Traffic is increasing because population is increasing, simple ratio. The road network has not been expanded, much like the rest of the British infrastructure, to cope with the expanding population. How can building a stretch or tarmac attract cars? It's complete ga-ga. It's another fable to go along with the comical traffic evaporation fairy story. Yes a car will use the new stretch of road, but means it won't be using a previously longer route, mean the previous route flows better. Not everybody who owns a car drives it. If you improve traffic flow and journey times by ‘building one more lane’ (figuratively and literally), you’ll attract people who might otherwise have not made that journey, made it at a different time or used other means. In addition, that may incentivise people to view private cars as an attractive mode for them to use and buy one if they can and don’t already have one. That leads to more people using that improved road and congestion, rince and repeat. But you the counter that by all the people that have shorter, quicker journeys not being on the road so long. And is there really people who think yeah they made a short section of road, I really must try that journey I never tried before. There is no evidence that happens, just some mode up theory a la traffic evaporation.

I don't understand, controllers should know by now that 289 cannot curtail to Long Lane with double deckers because there are very low trees, unless they have cut them down Where do they turn? I thought they turned just after Woodside Fire Station, but bus times shows first and last stop as Arena Tram stop. It merges onto Longheath Gardens and then turns right around the mini roundabout onto Long Lane

Does the turn by the fire station still exist, been many many years since my nan died and I wandered around that area.

Ashburton Park, Lower Addiscombe Road is still a turn and there is still a bus stand behind the fire station

Below is the small turn around point.

50 to Thornton Heath High Street 289 to Long Lane I don't understand, controllers should know by now that 289 cannot curtail to Long Lane with double deckers because there are very low trees, unless they have cut them down Could possibly go over the bridge and spin round at the roundabout outside Tesco but obviously not much time saved?

Does save a bit of time but would make you a bit later than expected

Does save a bit of time but would make you a bit later than expected Then turn around at Ashburton Park and the tram can pick up slack for Arena and Eimers End. Not much point of the Long Lane turn even existing imo

Not much point of the Long Lane turn even existing imo Arena is a bit of a walk from Long Lane but I suspect the turn won't be used much longer because of the tree problem.

Also saw 36 to Harrow Road, Elgin Avenue. The 36 seems to be turned away from Queens Park regularly whenever I drive on Vauxhall Bridge Road it is always curtailed and the 36 is always full. Was more reliable when it was running alongside the 436 when it was going to Paddington.
