The Greengate was used for buses terminating at WH from the south, most terminating from the north display West Ham Garage. There was also the more interesting display of "Stratford & West Ham Garage" which was used to liven up dead runs between WH and Stratford Bus Station Even in the early 90s WH ran Sunday duties on the 8 which ran to the garage in service. I remember as a younger enthusiast being fascinated by such workings.

Even in the early 90s WH ran Sunday duties on the 8 which ran to the garage in service. I remember as a younger enthusiast being fascinated by such workings. There was some really interesting arrangements "back in the day" like 25s, 150s and 247s showing "Ilford & Seven Kings Garage" and live garage journeys on the 101 to Upton Park Garage via Barking Road. Or the 140 which had three variations for its garage journeys from HD - towards Hayes/Heathrow joining line of route at Station Road, Harrow; towards Mill Hill joining line of route at Sheepcote Road (so just missing Harrow Town Centre); and the 'via Christchurch Avenue' journeys towards Mill Hill which veered off at Harrow & Wealdstone Station to join line of route at Kenton Library. At one time one of the latter journeys in the afternoon was extended to Mill Hill East Station (two journeys were extended in each peak, mainly to serve schools) and even this had its own display, on two lines: MILL HILL EAST STN / VIA CHRISTCHURCH AVENUE. Then there were the Sunday joureys via Cherry Lane Cemetery, which ran non-stop into Heathrow Airport via the M4 spur - quite the experience in an RT! For a brief period in 1987, after Hendon (AE) closed and the 183 was reallocated to HD, alternate Sunday journeys were extended in service from Pinner to Harrow Weald via Hatch End, this covered part of route 209 (since replaced by route H12) which did not operate on Sundays. I remember catching one of those journeys. Garage journeys off line-of-route were rarely publicised in the timetable, but they often had one or two regular users who got to know about them, and they were often sought out by enthusiasts. All great fun, but disconcerting to the ordinary passenger who might find their 140 turning left out of Harrow instead of right, or heading straight ahead across the lights at Kenton Library!

The A13 was extremly slow this afternoon so I suspect there was issues somewhere as local roads were also gridlocked. Turns galore on local routes even now! 173 to Chadwell Heath from Beckton and to Barking Ripple Road in the other direction 262 to Plaistow and Beckton Bus Station X3 241s to Prince Regent With regards to the Plaistow turn Go Ahead really uses this turn a lot on the 262 and 473. I have seen this countless times since they took over the route. It was a very rare turn under Stagecoach. I am surprised its even still a valid turn considering how tight the back roads are around Bull Road. Nah that never happens on the 173, the forums's favourite would not dear put a bus into Ripple Rd, they would send everything to Beckton.

If I remember rightly all buses on a Sunday ran in service to and from WH as it was such a long route drivers would need a break after each round trip.

Another favorite of mine was the 147 in the early 90s running Seven Kings / Ilford to Keir Hardie then the whole 241 to Stratford.
Not so special there was also the 25 Via Tower at weekends.
