Something needs to be done with these roadworks company using temporary traffic lights and should be used only as a last resort. They are seriously taking the pee with them and they create more pollution and time wasted due to very poor phasing, unreliability from battery problems and inconsistency. These things are set up in so much places and have wrecked havoc across the bus network in London.
Yesterday afternoon, some were set up on Barley Lane outside King George hospital being 3 way (boards marked 4 way) and the timings were that of 4 way! This had buses on the EL3 and 173 stacked up within the hospital and took around 15-20 minutes to get out of the hospital. The worst aspect NO roadworks had started, even up to now nothing has even been dug or anything done; absolutely ridiculous.
Another set has just sprung up on Grove Road near Gresham Drive being 3-way although roadworks has started. The 362 may as well be written of because of these lights.

My faint hope is that this is one of the bus plan action points. Have not seen an update. There have been good examples (e.g. Plaistow for a few months) but who is in charge to have a consistent policy or guide of best practice. Even more it is worth it to have a TfL traffic expert to be on site on Day 1 of any 3/4 way light to approve timings and set up. You raised some of my annoyances but the one that gets me is the 4-way which suddenly prioritises some random side street that has about 1 car but gets the same time as the main road traffic. If there was monetary pressure you would not have no works or a minor work leading to unnecessary 4 way closure.

I find that the worse temp lights are those place so close to working permanent lights, Merton High Steet coming to mind many years ago where temps were so close to the Haydons Road/Merton High Street signals.

This thread right here. I could speak about this for days with the inconvenience this has caused. The craziest thing about this is that it affects all four corners of London. I'm sure people on here have their own experiences with temporary traffic lights and how shambolic some setups have been where literally one or two cars are able to pass through and then you're stuck there for a few minutes.

I had a rare foray out on the 314s a couple of Sundays ago. There were four way lights at Eltham Church - they were red for three and half minutes! Madness When the traffic lights at College Road/Tweedy Road in Bromley were taken down by anti-ULEZ protestors they were replaced with temporary lights which had both arms of College Road going together!

The issue is that temporary traffic lights tend to have very long phases whereas London's permanent lights have short phases and short cycle times as a result (which is essential because generally there's a lack of space for cars to queue). Mixing the two is a disaster.

The cynic in me suggests it’s a deliberate ploy to increase air pollution levels to justify further ULEZ-type schemes

Up until a few days ago Burntwood Lane ws closed one way at the Garratt Lane end yet the traffic lights cycled to green for cars turning onto Garratt Lane, of which there were literally zero because the road was closed to vehicles from that direction... if someone pressed the crossing light then that would be even more time wasted because you could cross safely when the Burntwood Lane light was green. Now the road is entirely shut for works although I haven't seen a single person on site!!

As if someone read my post and wanted to get back at me. Have come across a new, most pointless, temp light ever.
The junction between Albert Road and Store Road, which is the road to access North Woolwich bus garage, (also used by 474 towards Manor Park to access North Woolwich Ferry). This absolute nothingness, has a 4-way traffic set up. Someone shoot me. Furthermore, the work is a minor repaving at the corner of the payment not on the road. Why has someone not shot me ...
Got stopped yesterday at the lights but this morning the lights were out and everyone was negotiating the minor issue without a problem.
