The new timetables come into effect from Sunday 2nd June. The new Chiltern Railways timetable has an unusual feature - two peak-time trains that only run on three days a week. A new 07.21 Princes Risborough-London Marylebone service will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays calling at High Wycombe and Beaconsfield. The corresponding evening service will depart London Marylebone at 17.37 calling at High Wycombe. As a result of these new trains, the 06.37 Oxford-London Marylebone will only call at Princes Risborough, High Wycombe and Beaconsfield on Mondays and Fridays, and the 17.45 London Marylebone-Oxford will only call at High Wycombe on Mondays and Fridays. There are a handful of other minor changes. www.chilternrailways.co.uk/jun24timetable

Unlike TFL that always favour total standardisation, clearly a more private operator are more willing to embrace the acceptance of a more WFH culture.

I wouldn't be surprised though if TfL started making small reductions to peak-time frequencies on Mondays and Fridays - on most tube lines this would be barely noticeable. Standardisation is more to do with keeping routes the same (or the same pattern) over seven days a week rather than actual frequencies. I definitely think we will see other train operators adapting the Monday and Friday peak services going forward.

Would be great if Chilterns reintroduced the Stratford Upon Avon train.

Southern also run extra peak trains from Victoria to Sutton via Norbury and I wouldn't be surprised if they become Tuesday to Thursday only with the other days just having the basic 2 tph from Victoria to Epsom Downs.

We have since Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday run longer trains on some of our services already so it’s sort of already been trialled. The 0555 Marylebone to Wycombe is a 5 carriage train midweek rather than 3 on Mondays and Fridays: similar to a service that already leaves Wembley for princes risborough (loco hauled, same as the additional service thrown in june) which is a 4 car 165 Mondays and Fridays. It’s maximising the limited stock we have at the moment, with cascaded units eventually planned to come to us from spring 2025, we have to find workarounds where we can
