Sadly, I find it fascinating how London bus routes are spread far and wide across Greater London, namely, route numbers. So for instance, the 150 runs as far out as Chigwell Row whereas the next number up, the 151 is all the way out through Sutton into Wallington.
Furthermore, the 127 and 151 run parallel at one point as does the 128 and 150.
Just for fun, and not expecting anyone to get out a metre stick, what other 'next numbered' bus routes are miles apart from each other?

The 371 and 372 are worlds apart, the closest ends being Richmond and Hornchurch. I'll take a punt and say the total journey time of both routes is probably shorter than travelling between both points on the train!

If we restrict this to route numbers below 100, then I think the top 2 pairs would be 79/80 (Stonebridge Park and Morden) or 89/90 (Lewisham and Feltham).

293 and 294? Both terminate right in opposite extremities, the former even outside the London boundary

Not as long as the others but the 345 & 346 (and 347 too) are nowhere near each other and are wildly different routes altogether when looking at loadings, frequency, types of bus, etc

Very interesting thread.
I have some suggestions-
215/216 (Staines - Lee Valley Campsite) 371/372 (Richmond - Lakeside) 422/423 (Heathrow - Bexleyheath) 469/470 (Sutton - Erith) 491/492 (Waltham Cross - Bluewater)
Lower numbers are more difficult as they are more localised in the central area but -
33/34 (Richmond - Walthamstow) 89/90 (Slade Green - Feltham) 51/52 (Orpington - Willesden)

As for numbered routes closest to each other in tfl numbered order I'd say - 403, 404, 405, 406, 407 - are the closest to each other. Furthermore they all are routes that cross the London-Surrey boundary.
496, 497 (when it existed), 498, 499 can also be contenders for routes that ran closest to each other within that number range.

The 34 runs no where near the 33 as already mentioned but also no where near the 35 - the 35 in comparison actually connects to both the 36 & 37
