Just seen a 36X EH, nicely blinded, go past on Vauxhall Bridge Road.
Does anyone know if the 52s have any notices informing passengers of which 'branch' the bus is operating on barring the destination blind (which is rather uninformative in these circumstances without via points!)
Via points weren't always helpful when they existed either. In this August 2010 view, VPL189 is operating the diversion route to Willesden - and will pass none of the 'via points' that are being displayed! 52 in Unfamiliar Territory by Julian Walker, on Flickr Man I miss those buses...

Having been both days, I can positively say the extra buses made a difference at carnival! Can't speak for Notting Hill Gate as I didn't enter or exit there both days, but I assume traffic was crawling there as always. Harrow Road on the other hand was fairly smooth and no dangerously overloaded buses for 2 days straight. TfL officials were back again at Elgin Avenue (I assume Hotting Hill Gate as well) sheparding people onto the 36 and 36X mainly, as well as acting as crowd management. I hopped onto the 36X last night which headed to NX instead of Peckham, but was a stopping service instead of express to Vauxhall. What is vital in providing these extras is these bus routes still have to cater for other passengers not just in the carnival area, and I have to hand it to TfL in doing a good job these past couple days. Albeit we're heading to service provisions previously seen before the pandemic, the Son of a Bus Driver has definitely earned his positive critiques this bank holiday weekend.

So only special routes 36X and 7X are running now? I can see why the 2X wouldnt be as needed, but the 205X theyve missed out here. No extra journeys on the 18 either. A lot of people use to use the 205X from the East end TfL relied heavily on east and south-east Londoners using the Lizzy line to Paddington and walking along the Grand Union Canal to head to the carnival procession. I would like to see the return of the 205X which in the past was around 3bph in the peak flow of direction (to Harrow Road in the afternoon, Aldgate in the evening). Unfortunately the Elizabeth line is a rather quick and reliable alternative to the 205, so in effect the train is the 205X. The Central line falls off a cliff reliability wise on carnival days so the 7X is a welcome boost. And punters in crowded Camberwell make good use of the 36X, so these carnival extras can be justified.
