Terrible loss and seems to have been one of the final few "old Labour" politicians continuing to back the movement long after he left office.

The world definitely would not be the same without "two jags" John Prescott. He was a real down to earth person, RIP

Sorry if I sound blunt, but why are so many MPs dying? This is just a month after John Prescott unexpectedly passed in, of all places, North Macedonia!

John Prescott also hasn't been an MP since 2010, and given the two landslide victories since 2010 (2019 and 2024) in which large swathes of MPs were either deseated or admitted into Parliament, then it would be unsurprising anyway that there are more former MPs.

The world definitely would not be the same without "two jags" John Prescott. He was a real down to earth person, RIP It's terribly sad and he was a real visionary with his transport strategy in 2000, many policies from which (for better or for worse) have clearly had a great influence on the suggestions that have been put forward by the Conservative Government that followed the New Labour years and plans which the current Labour government are considering pursuing.
It's a real shame that Prescott devised it when he did because I think Brown would have taken a much greater interest in the plans put forward by him rather than Blair who seemed more interested in constructing assets which would keep his political capital as high as possible and ensure the three election victories, the emphasis on constructing schools and hospitals spring to mind. The 2010 manifesto was Labour moving away from third-way socialism and pushing into social democracy, which likely would have improved the case for these projects to receive investment.

Hem certainly was a no nonsense politician and a one of a kind. Love him or hate him, I am sure many on the right admired when he hit that fellow who threw a egg at him.

I will say me and my mum have long thought that the period of November to January does tend to see a lot of famous people pass on for whatever reason to the point we usually remark, "it's that time of the year again"
