Cheap way of keeping the 16th bus on the schedule

Much rather the bus used on the 173 instead of the very expensive cost per mile of school routes.
———- The 673 needs one bus to operate the afternoon service - this bus will be re-allocated to route 173’s schedule to improve reliability This change will allow us to better use our limited resources

Pretty bog standard, ever since the 173 went decker in 2015 there has been no need for the route. I think everyone is all for the extra bus on the 173.

Wouldn't surprise me if the 687's next up in line for withdrawal.

As I've said before alot of school routes began in the days when more day routes used SDs and before free travel for kids when providing cross town links were more important. Is there a massive need for the 613 from Glenthrone when the 80 is DD every 8 mins as opposed to every 12 mins with SDs 10 years ago. To me the resource would be better on an extra bph on the 213 during the peaks and shopping hours.

The 613 is actually one of the school routes I’d expect to stay given it provides a unique link from Tolworth to Worcester Park and Cheam where there are quite a lot of large high schools with wide reaching catchments. It is not out the question for a girl living in Tolworth to be accepted to Nonsuch Girls, a boy from Tolworth may go to Coombe Boys, the list goes on. An extra 213 wouldn’t solve that unique loss.

The roundabout is pretty awful and I don’t think double deckers would be suitable for it as there are often cars parked against it. If one of the 627s was extended it would have to convert to small single deckers to be useful and that is a lot of lost capacity.

But this doesn't account for the lost capacity between Sutton and New Malden which is desperately needed. While 80 has had massive uplifts on the Glenthorne end, the 213 has seen hefty cuts including a school extra.

I actually think with the increase on SL7 and traffic improvements in Worcester Park since Covid the current frequency of the 213 is pretty much spot on. There are considerably less turns than pre-Covid and the lower frequency means buses tend to get a lot further than 5 years ago. It’s actually more common to see a Kingston Hospital turn than it is Coombe Road nowadays.
