i was reading a few weeks ago, about the district line having some of the renovated trains on the track now.
it was in that free metro paper.
i thought oh, ill have to look for one.
as i quite often get a district line train from becontree to west ham stn, then get a 276 to work.
well, th other w/end i was going up the west end on trains, and the train was on of these newly done up ones.
its still got all the old vandalised glass, in the carriage, doors, inside window panels etc...
which is a pity, as it really lets down a smart bit of renovation.
they have new anti slip floors(i prefer the REAL wooden ones), they have all new seats, with a better arm rest seat divider idea, they have lost the handles from the ceiling, with the black ball at the end of a spring thingy, they now use ones which look exactly the same as the ones on our buses!!,
they have a complete new set of grab bars, which are colour coded to the line the train is running on, IE green in these d/line ones.
this was done so from the platform, you can look inside a train and see what colour the metal rails are(and the ceiling rails for the handles) and know which line that train is!!!
this is good for big, multiple line stations, i think.
they have the old doors at he sides and the ends, BUT they have new panels on them, so they (apart from the old glass) look new!!
and, either side of the 2 through to the next carriage doors, theres now 2 big windows, which is good as its a lot of light getting in, and you can see into the next carriage from where your sitting, as the next carriage has the same new windows, GOOD IDEA.
but.....
i was sitting there the other w.end, looking at the scrolling matrix board above the 2 carriage to carriage, doors.
it was telling you which station you were approaching, before you got there, and a computer voice read this out!!!
i was thinking i wonder if its triggered by a sensor, at the track side, to change to the next station.?
anyway, when you get to barking, or west ham, it says this station has jubilee and main rail service trains etc etc, again very good!!!
but tonight i was coming home on the train from west ham, i thought oh its one of the new ones , this should be a nice soft seat etc etc.
i sat down (at w/ham) and looked at the monitor, it said, this station is west ham, blah blah, rail services etc....
so, i was watching it, to see when it was going to change to plaistow.....
kept watching..
eventually we roll into plaistow, the monitor STILL scrolls "this station is w/ham" etc etc
by the time we got to barking it went off......#came back on, and scrolled this is "bromley by bow".... ;D ;D
i laughed out loud...
i saw other people shake their heads... ;D
i thought when i get out at upney(62 from there goes to my front door!!!), ill try and see if the driver is pressing buttons, or what.(to sort the matrix)
i saw the train driver...
he was probably 55+
and was getting headache tablets out of a plastic foil packet ;D ;D
so now i think these matrix updates are automatic, but the driver can manually type in something to get it syncronised(same as we do on the ticket machines fair stages buttons), which would explian the sudden jump to brom by bow, as it begins with B, and he was looking for barking??
man, i have an unusual journey, even when im going home ;D
