What have these transferred for? No idea mate, it seemed a very strange move to me especially as these are not EuroVI compliant and AL doesn’t appear to have any need for spare buses. Also doesn’t the 57 pass through a Green Bus Corridor? Yes, the A23 from St Leonard's Church to Oval is a green corridor.

Why would it be withdrawn? I thought the 240 still needed newer buses.

Why would it be withdrawn? I thought the 240 still needed newer buses. The 240 was never meant to get these - the tender stated "2011 diesel buses converted to Euro VI" which look like they were probably VWs from PA (The 11xx 11 reg ones) which would've joined onto the current 292 batch (VW1199-1208). I am very doubtful this will happen now though - EW don't seem to like the VWs very much judging by the fact they've already gotten rid of VW1204/1205 to AH and often tend to just abandon VWs on the back wall of EW in favour of using either TEs, TEHs or VMHs on the route instead. The current VW abandoned on the back wall is VW1207 - Been sitting there over a week. Also if we look at the 292 only half the allocation is VW - TE884/TE984/TEH1226 are on the route instead of VWs. I feel like some sort of shuffle involving the 204s TEs may happen, allowing them to come back to EW with VWs from somewhere taking their place instead at ON. Although thats just a guess. Why would it be withdrawn? I thought the 240 still needed newer buses. Its leased. They are not leased*. I remember when TP446/TC378/Tommy was still on the forum he said this batch isn't leased and would be used further - by that it looks like they are seeing further use as spares at different garages: VW1819/1822/1837 at AC VW1823-1825/1827 at HT VW1830/1833 at AH/SG VW1839 at HD VW1841 at ON The ones not in use I should imagine will either slowly get sold or used as extras where necessary (For refurb floats or as temporary replacement for VOR buses etc.) * - I get the feeling a lot of the earlier ex First buses are not leased, and is probably why Metroline opted to keep older batches over some of the newer ones - e.g. the 08/58 reg 15xx/16xx DEs and 59 reg VWs were refurbished and kept upon contract renewals, whereas the 11 reg 18xx/19xx DEs at G, which are newer, where replaced with native versions with the ex First ones going off lease.

First & Arriva were the only two operators who brought everything outright bar exceptions like the Artics & the first hybrids but I think First started leasing around 2011 - no idea regarding Arriva.

First did actually start leasing buses as early as 2009 - the 09 reg 16xx DEs were sent off lease by Metroline c2016-2018 as well as the 09 reg DES in 2016 - but they didn't start outright leasing everything until 2011. Metroline these days I believe outright buy most of their stuff now - back in those days though I know that the 3xx VPs and TPs were leased from Dawsons Rentals (Which we actually see less of these days in London - Travel London and Metroline used to use them commonly) and I believe the 04 reg VPLs were also leased, and have started to finally be collected by the leasing company.

I’m sure Arriva purchased the MAs and the 453s batch of MALs were owned too.
