It's a sign of the times and i'm afraid you'll be seeing alot more of this sort of thing to come. Zavvi shut another 18, i think, stores today too. So far the only industry to have come out good is the fast food sector. I know KFC are planning to introduce more stores and my own employer is doing very well indeed.

Ironically the fast food chains have put up their prices since the recession really started to kick in .

Well that would include Croydon's Zavvi store which is closing very shortly. only found when I went looking for a Duran Duran CD ;D. Luckily, the company I work for, Iceland, is doing well and lately, our store at Brixton has took a few more people on.

Other than KFC, Starbucks is ever expanding in the whole country since first introduced over a decade ago. And the latest store so far has been opened is at Westfield London, I've heard that there are now more stores here in London than in downtown Manhattan, New York.

You are not comparing like with like, downtown Manhattan is not a very big area, London is. In any case, not overjoyed at the prospect, and I don't like their coffee, not at those prices!

On the other hand, they've got one McDonald's in every 2 blocks there, according to the documentary 'Super-Size Me'. The high prices are comparable to Costa Coffee as well (e.g a panini costs £3.90 at both places).
