When I lived & worked in London (Stanmore to be exact) from 2001 to 2004, I spent 3 Saturdays out of 4 abusing a One-Day Travel Card, travelling on buses, trains, trams and the tube. On the buses side of things, I was (still am) interested in Bus Garages. So, I spotted London Transport Bus Garages by John Aldridge in the Ian Allan book shop in Marsh Street (south side of Waterloo Rail station). It was (is?) published by Ian Allan. As well as describing all bus garages (past, present and planned), it gives a short history on each one, together with a very brief run-down on what type of bus dominated each garage. On that score alone, it's good. It also gives brief notes about depots that have contributed to the London Bus network, but were/are outside the London Boundary (e.g. a few routes in Morden and Sutton are garaged in Epsom). One serious short-coming of the book is that it does not nail down EXACTLY where each closed garage was. For example, it says that Dalston garage was on... "Shrubland Road and Ivydene Road". I went there, hoping to find some evidence of its existence, but........nothing - Ivydene Road has gone (presumably swallowed up in some new development. Apart from that, it's an OK book, but not spectacular.
