In 2012, the 4 retained with Metroline with brand new buses and VWs and TEHs were ordered but the 4 got VPLs from the 390 instead. Did the TEHs and VW that were ordered get diverted elsewhere?

I think the TEHs might have joined the larger amount at W on the 16/139/189

Seen on another group that apparantley the exFirst VWs at Alperton are to be withdrawn when the garage closes. Can't see this being the case myself but would make sense in the name of standardisation. Just wonder what would replace them?

IIRC the subsequent award of the 24 changed things. Most of the VWs that would have been ordered for the 4 ended up on the 24. That wasn't the first time the 4 had lost out to the 24 on new buses - the first batch of TEs was partially financed via the 4 contract but was diverted to the 24.
As for the hybrids, in 2012 Metroline had retained the 43/82/113/134/W7 with (mostly) new buses, including 20 hybrids (the hybrid route was not specified). The 4 award included another 4 hybrids. In practice these 24 hybrids materialised as 19 TEHs (1449-1467) and 5 VWHs (1360-1364). The VWHs were initially part of the 24 allocation, while the TEHs went to W to release TEs to the 113. So in effect the hybrids financed via the 4 contract went to either the 24 or the 16/139/189.

Oh thanks. Would you say that Metroline does that a lot ie Order vehicles for one route and then divert them to another route?

They have gained 20 hydrogen buses, lose X140 in 4 weeks, have some other PVR cuts coming up. So have excess of buses, so won't need to replace them, just cascade in some of the buses already in the fleet.

Oh thanks. Would you say that Metroline does that allot. Not necessarily. These decisions wouldn't have been taken by Metroline on their own, they would have been the result of discussions between Metroline and TfL. There were several factors to consider at the time - hybrids were still quite expensive and TfL had to think carefully about where they wanted them to be deployed.
I suspect that TfL also had one eye on the deployment of early LTs, and how that would affect the fleet going forward. Remember the 24 was the first full conversion, and resulted in nearly-new VWs and VWHs needing to be redeployed. Perhaps (and this is just a guess) the original idea was that the VWs would move to the 4, but it was decided to double-deck the 245 instead, meaning the 4 had to continue with existing vehicles for the rest of its contract.

Yeah of course. Thanks for the information.

I would assume they would replace them with the newer VW's from the 245 for the remainder of the 83/483 contracts, though I can't see that happening until something newer ends up being allocated to the 245.

There would be 6 VWs freed up if the WHDs from 7 cut went to 245 - still not enough mind.

Well there also VWHs released from the U4 as the U4 won’t need because the U3 is single decked again and the U4 has received it’s TEs back. I wonder what will happen to the VWHs. Could they. E a key to having the ex First VWs being replaced.
