Why do GAL's new Ee s have the lower-deck rear middle seat blocked off with a permanent white block, whereas their earlier ones and the RATP BCEs don't?

Seen today at around 1130 near the Woodstock Junction between Morden and North Cheam, GAL Ee1. Couldn't get a photo as I was driving and have no idea what it was up to. No display on the blinds.

Seen today at around 1130 near the Woodstock Junction between Morden and North Cheam, GAL Ee1. Couldn't get a photo as I was driving and have no idea what it was up to. No display on the blinds. Could have been doing a preliminary route test for the Sutton routes. ITT is due to be issued very soon.

In all fairness I think GAL would've gone for the Ees regardless now the 10.3m Ee is available, I think should the 10.3 variant have been an option for the 200 they would've taken it. I think Ees will be GALs first choice. Now I understand Switch obviously have one factory unlike ADL however when purchasing buses I think operators will consider delivery time and for Switch delivery time is obviously quite slow currently, most orders for London past and present were late. Also by having a single type for double deckers and single deckers it has maintenance benefits I believe was stated before. Obviously this is just my view.

I still wouldn't be surprised if an Electric was made to fit the MMC body. The fact that take up of the hybrid City was so small (Arriva 2 batches for the 78 and 133/333 and HCT for the 20 and 388) would suggest it was more expensive then the MMC body was. No disrespect to anyone in the area or the route but the 212 for example doesn't really need a glass staircase tbh.

As we know there will never be enough existing for all the routes particularly now the 80 is possibly included. I still can't call though if they will just go all new and no longer need diesel tanks with only 7 buses compliant there or whether those 7 plus the current 200 WHVs, all the ex 63 MHVs plus some from Central reductions will be gathered up there for lets say the 80, 151 and 154 with the 93 and 213 getting new. Will this be the first example of TFL coverting an entire depot and any hybrids being held back for a garage that will continue to have hybrids anyway for a while longer like C or MB. I think it's entirely plausible that the 40, 42, 87, 171, 172, 188, 343 plus the 11, 21 giving more LTs to the 176 and even the 36 and 88 could be part of the 4% drop so that Go ahead could have 25 plus spare hybrids free. It is also worth noting that the Sutton routes would do 2022-2029 max so would easily be inside the desired 2030-37 deadline if they did continue with hybrids.

Could be type training as that's ongoing at the moment. In my experience it's trainer's discretion on where to take the bus during those sessions, sometimes even allowing drivers to decide (within reason).

The City bodywork is more expensive than the MMC, but it is also easier to customise which is why it was adapted for CNG and electric vehicles - and these are typically bought with Green Bus Fund grants which offset the extra costs. The City bodywork does now have the non-glazed staircase as an option.

As someone else mentioned above, the City was slightly more expensive than the normal MMC. Blackpool has a batch of E400 Cities - Rode these in 2019 they looked superb is the Blackpool Transport livery.
